IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George Henry
Stollwerck Jr.
March 1, 1941 – September 9, 2017
George Henry Stollwerck, Jr., 76, passed away peacefully on September 9th, 2017, at Josephine Care Community, Stanwood, WA. He was born in New Rochelle, NY to George and Lacey Stollwerck, and was the oldest of six children.
George had been a resident of Skagit County, Washington on and off for many years, except when employment responsibilities required temporary relocations to Newport Beach, CA; Sacramento, CA; Salt Lake City, UT; Los Angeles, CA; St. Louis, MO; and Tahullah, LA. . Due to health concerns, he moved back to Skagit County in 2010
He graduated from Burlington-Edison High School in 1959, and throughout his life-pursued continuing education at College and University level. George held multiple certifications from a wide array of professional organizations, including being licensed by the FAA as a Commercial Pilot. He met his obligation in the service of his country, and held various command-level positions in public education, law enforcement, environmental protection and private industry.
George moved to and lived on beautiful Lake Havasu in Arizona since his retirement in 1998. That was when he made a radical career change, from the airlines to writing both fiction and non-fiction books. At the time of his death, George had published eight books, including one with technical advice from Lt. Colonel Edward "Lobo" Wolf, a retired 3-war USAF fighter pilot. This novel revealed little known facts of how America had been able to achieve superiority in Space during the Cold War, despite massive odds generated by the Russians, and a delayed program start
George was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. George and Lily Lacey Stollwerck, and his youngest sister, Heidi Kay Hutchens. He is survived by brother Peter (Carol) Stollwerck & family, living in Mukilteo, WA, and Eric (Karla) Stollwerck & family, living in Anacortes, WA, and sister Gretchen (Randy) Merritt & family, living in the Big Lake area of Mt. Vernon, WA, and sister Michelle Robertson & Family, living in Mt. Vernon, WA
George's family would like to thank all the great staff at Josephine Care Community, and members of Hospice of the Northwest.
At George's request, there will be no public services. Arrangements are under the care of Hawthorne Funeral Home and Memorial Park, of Mt. Vernon, WA.
