IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Georgina Fyfe
Gribble
July 12, 1936 – June 18, 2023
Georgina "Ina" Muirhead Fyfe Gribble was born and raised in the Scottish Coastal town of Ayr on July 12, 1936.
Her maternal Grandparents: Agnus Smith and Alexander "Sandy" Muirhead had 8 children, so she grew up surrounded by a large close family.
Her Aunt Nan, Uncle Tom Brown, and Cousin Tommy Brown owned and operated an established Hair/Barber Salon where Ina worked as a hairdresser until she moved away. So, conversations with strangers easily transitioned to friendships.
In school she excelled in sports and music. She loved to sing. She played violin and piano. and was always willing to join in a Sing-along.
One evening in 1954 she and a friend were in the local dance hall "Bobby Jones" where people gathered after work to enjoy music, sing songs and dance. This is where David Harold Gribble came into her life, while his squadron was temporarily held over at Prestwick Airfield. It didn't take long for them to know they'd found something special. Soon he proposed, and after her parents; Thomas Fyfe and Elizabeth "Lizzy" Shaw Marchbank Smith Fyfe confirmed Davids parents were upstanding citizens and came from quality stock, they hesitantly gave their blessings.
And in 1955 Ina set sail to cross the ocean for New York Harbor where upon arrival, when she did not see David to meet her, she feared she'd made a mistake as to turn back. However, she was met by Davids Aunt Thelma and Uncle Burt Bailey who drove her to their home in Harrisburg Pennsylvania until David could get leave for their wedding which took place Feb 6th, 1955.
Ina never lost her amazement at how vast and diverse these United States are, both in its land and its people. Over the years the chapters transitioned in Pullman Washington, from being a young married college couple, when only 2 years in, also parents of their first child, Eileen Marie, to UC Davis and the life of an expanded family where she became the Professor/Doctors wife and mother of 3 more children, Michael David, Karin Lynne, and Kevin John.
In 1981 they left the university life to move next door to Davids parents Harold and Ethel Gribble at Big Lake WA, where David became a consultant and gentleman farmer of dairy cattle. Ina remained connected to her Scottish roots through the local Scottish dancing community and dancing at the highland games.
Although Ina had never dreamed of living the farming life, her "Can't stop me" nature had her knee deep in manure, breathing life into goats, cats, herding aggressive geese and sometimes even milking cows, making homemade butter, and whistling a sharp call for the dogs, cow, or her family to come for dinner.
Eventually each of her children moved away which was especially hard for Ina, but in time all were gathered nearby again, and she was so pleased to have not only her children but grandchildren Jennifer Lynne, and Michael John, and great grandchildren Bryson Michael, Guinivere Marie, Brantly Joel and Beau Michale Joel, all close and often together for family gatherings. It was during one such gathering she'd been enjoying with lots of laughs, Brantly's magic act and conversations when she suffered a headache and disorientation. she was quickly taken to the hospital, then air lifted to Harborview where it was determined the brain bleed was severe and untreatable. She was kept comfortable, all her family surrounded her, and she passed peacefully on June 18th, 2023.
She is predeceased by her son Michale D Gribble, parents Thomas and Elizabeth Fyfe, cousin Pat Muirhead Brown, aunt Nan Muirhead Brown, uncle Tom Brown, uncles Benny, Hugh and William Muirhead, and aunts Rose, Betty and May Muirhead.
She is survived by her husband David Harold Gribble, daughter Eileen Marie Gribble
daughter Karin Lynne Gribble (Thomas McLeod), son Kevin John Gribble (Martha Jane Gribble),
granddaughter Jennifer Lynne Gribble Gilbert (BJ Gilbert), and grandson Michael John Gribble (Gabrielle Gribble). She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Bryson Michael Gilbert. Guinivere Marie Gribble, Brantley Joel Gilbert, Beau Michael Joel Gribble, and cousin Tommy Brown (Elsie Brown) and many more cousins and friends.
