Obituary

Glenn Dale Runion went to be with the Lord on January 24, 2022, at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Bernice; his 97-year-old brother, Ralph Runion; his children Ruth (Scott) Millar, Urbana, IL, Stephen (Tina), Portland, OR, Daniel, Minneapolis, MN, Sarah (Todd) Magnuson, St. Cloud, MN; eleven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. He will be remembered as a faithful servant of God. Born December 28, 1929, the fifth son of Fred Runion and Evalena Carter, Glenn grew up on the family farm in Chokio, Minnesota. His father valued faith and education. The family attended the local Methodist church where Glenn later made a commitment to Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He began his education in a one room schoolhouse and graduated in 1947 from Chokio High School. After moving to St. Paul, MN, he was employed by Farmers Insurance as a bookkeeper supervisor. He married Bernice Schlaegel in 1951. Upon returning in 1953 from service in Japan during the Korean War, Bernice and Glenn moved west to Burlington, WA, to be near family friends. He soon found work at a local bank, where he excelled and became a manager in four locations, retiring in 1985. Glenn and Bernice have been members of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon for over 60 years. He served the church and community in many capacities, including the role of church chairman, Bible studies, retreats, missionary prayer meetings, Kiwanis, and the Rotary. Hobbies included gardening, stamp collecting, and sporting events.
