Obituary

Grant was born on June 2, 1961 in Everett, and passed away from a heart attack January 4, 2021 at his home in Olympia.

Grant attended Westview Elementary and Burlington Edison High School, class of 1979.  He got his first degree in culinary arts from Skagit Valley College.  He served as chef in several well known restaurants, including Fredrick & Nelson in downtown Seattle. But he was always wanting to learn something new, and developed a great interest in bridges.  He then attended Everett Community College and the University of Washington and got his degree in engineering.  He worked in the bridge engineering department for the State of Washington for over 20 years.  While working for the State, part of his job was to inspect bridges all over Washington, including hanging over the side of the Deception Pass Bridge. A perfectionist at heart, he also took on the extra task of procuring his professional engineer license.  Not one to sit still, after retiring from the State, he took a job with the City of Tukwilla for a few years and eventually went to work for Trantech Engineering, where he was currently working.  He loved and respected his Trantech family, and all the friends he made throughout the state.

Grant was tenacious and driven, and accomplished so many of his goals with perseverance and a desire to keep learning.  His willingness to help others, attention to detail, loyalty, and kindness made him a man that co-workers, and all the people whose lives he touched all over the state, love him and love working with him.  Grant will be remembered as the best son, brother, and friend that we were all lucky enough to have in our lives.

Grant is survived by his parents, Delbert and Evelyn, sister Rochelle and her husband Al, nephew Zach, his wife Chikage, their children Hikari and Masaki, and niece Taryn.

No services will be held due to Covid-19.
