IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Hans Dieter
Lukner
August 27, 2021
Hans Dieter Lukner of Sedro Woolley, WA was born January 28, 1970, in Maryville, Tennessee, to Roland and Tatjana Lukner. He passed away August 27, 2021, in Mount Vernon, WA with his wife, Sonja by his side. Hans' parents immigrated from Russia and Ukraine to Austria and Germany, then on to Canada and lastly, the US. Because of their background, Hans' parents exposed him to many cultural experiences, travel, and the importance of speaking multi-languages. He spoke fluent German and maintained his ability to speak the language after living his early childhood in Germany. He also moved several times in his childhood due to his parents love of exploration. After being born in Tennessee, soon thereafter his family moved to Germany, then Bartlesville, Ok and moved again when he was in his last year of High School to Dallas, TX. Hans attended Bartlesville High School, in Bartlesville, OK until his Senior year and then graduated from Skyline High School in Dallas, TX. He went on to receive a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering Cum Laude and a Master of Science in Manufacturing Systems Management from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. Hans was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society, Tau Beta Pi and was a Registered Professional Engineer in Texas, Alaska, and Washington. In May 1992, Hans met Sonja in Dallas, Texas. They were engaged by August of 1992. Hans and Sonja were married January 8, 1994, in Dallas, TX in the Perkins Chapel at SMU.
Hans and Sonja had three children. Erik Alexander was born in 1997, Charles Sven was born in 2001, and Karina Tatjana born in 2006. His children were his passion, and he was so incredibly proud of them. Hans and Sonja's lives centered around raising their children and he placed a priority on teaching them about our Lord. He believed with Faith they could get through anything. He also taught them the value of hard work and the joy of working with their hands. There was nothing Hans could not fix or create. He believed you could do anything you wanted to do, just take the time to learn how and do it right. He took great interest and involvement in every one of his children's passions, researching and as he so often put it, "figuring it out." It was very important to him that the family gathered daily for at least one meal, to share what was going on and to catch up with each child. He believed in everyone gathering and the family was very close. He had limitless patience and believed in teaching his children about everything he knew. He was very committed to his wife Sonja and they were each other's best friends. The commitment and kindness between Hans and Sonja was very evident. Hans was the best Husband and Father.
Hans was a person with many hobbies and he was always happily inventing and planning new projects for himself. He especially loved working in nature and enjoyed his property and the natural environment it provided for his interests and family. He was an avid gardener and beer maker. He spent most weekends either watching his kids participate in their passions or improving some part of the family property. Hans meticulously cared for his roses, all the family animals and was very adamant that all mechanical items were on strict maintenance schedules. Everything Hans did was planned and thought out perfectly. He left nothing to chance and was very dependable. He leaves a beautiful legacy of compassionate, loving, and faithful living.
Hans is survived by his wife of 27 years Sonja Lukner; sons Erik and Sven and his daughter Karina. He is also survived by his brother Ralf Lukner (Elisabeth) of Pampa, TX and his children; Elizabeth, Catherine, David, Joseph and Stephen and his sister Gwen Lukner Gordon (Frank) of Nashville, TN and their children; Gavin, Cam and Taylor.
