Harland Forrest passed away at his home in Chehalis, WA on 10/18/2018. He was born on December 1st, 1943 in Seattle, WA to Harland and Myrtle (Boeck) Forrest. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Janice Bishop and grandson Leo Edward. Harland was a salesman his whole life peddling cars, home and auto glass, garage doors and advertising for a local radio station. It was once said that Dad could "sell ice to an Eskimo". He had many endeavors during his life that were benefits to the communities in which he lived. Whether it was umpiring local youth baseball, spearheading fund raisers for the local Catholic school or being part of a team that built the "Dream Field" at Skagit Valley College. He was community minded and it showed. Harland graduated in 1962 from Centralia High School. He was Student Body President, Senior Class President, Captain and Quarterback of the football team. After graduation, Harland entered the US Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1964 to come home and care for his family after the passing of his mother. He began his professional life selling cars at Yard Birds in Chehalis. He then went to work for Buzz Co in Chehalis. He then uprooted the family and moved to Mt. Vernon, WA in 1978 to start selling Datsun's at I-5 Auto World. Dad sold cars for over 25 years throughout the Skagit Valley and to many of you. Following his days in the car business, he ran St. John's Glass in Bellingham and then also worked at Overhead Door. In 2000, Mom and Dad moved back down to Chehalis to care for his mother in law Louise Waldock. He worked for a local radio station in Chehalis selling advertising until his retirement in 2016. Dad had many loves in his life from football, baseball to golf. He achieved a hole in one at Neuwakum Golf Course in 2013. His greatest love was for his family; especially his grandchildren and never missed a chance to tell anyone that would listen. His is survived by his wife of nearly 51 years Mary; son Patrick and wife Julie; son Tom and wife Huong; daughter Lori; son Michael and wife Jeni; his grandchildren Brady, Jacoby, Derek, Cale and Ruby; brother Mike and wife Sue; brother Jeff and wife Donita and many nieces, nephews and lifelong friend Don Cocking. Friends are invited to a memorial service on Sunday October 28th, 2018 at Hawthorne Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, WA. There will also be an additional service in the Chehalis area the following weekend at a place and time to be determined. Cremation has taken place and burial will be private. Dad was a gentle soul and generous to a fault. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Rest in Peace Dad.
