Obituary

Harold Edward Ring, 87, of Darrington, WA passed from this world into the arms of his Heavenly Father on October 31, 2017.

Hal was the only child born to John C. Ring and Clarice E (King) Ring on March 17, 1930 in Courtland, CA. He graduated from Elk Grove High School in California. Hal attended colleges in Cullman, AL, Seattle, WA and Ellensburg, WA.

At the age of 24, Harold entered the Trappist Monastery in Huntsville, Utah for six years. Those years at Trinity Abbey shaped the personal principles that he lived by for his remaining life. He earned a BA in education at Seattle University and Master's Degree at Central Washington University. It was in Ellensburg that he met and married the love of his life, Janis Green. Hal's teaching career spanned 28 years with jobs in Seattle, Wapato, Rosalia, and Darrington, WA. Harold retired from the classroom in 1993 and became a master gardener. Harold and Janis visited nearly 20 countries around the world, traveling with a group of their Darrington friends. Hal's favorite vacation spot was Hawaii, where they revisited regularly during his retirement.

Hal was very involved in the Darrington community, serving on various town boards and volunteering for the Cascade Senior Center for many years. As Hal's dementia advanced, it became more difficult to do the yardwork that he loved, but he never lost his sense of humor, nor his Christian beliefs. Hal was always a man of honor, generous to others and a gentleman. He was so proud of his family and was so appreciative of the many blessings in his life. Harold will always be remembered and loved by those whose lives he touched. Hal leaves his wife Janis of 51 years, one son, Andrew (Crystal) Ring of Mount Vernon, granddaughter, Hailey Ostbo of Snohomish as well as several cousins and nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind Brother Nicholas of Huntsville, UT, his special friend, Ted (April) Smith of Clarksburg, CA and his cousin Jim Ring of Shelton, CA. Harold is preceded in death by his parents John and Clarice Ring, uncle Raymond Russell, and various other aunts and uncles and cousins. A special thank you goes to Hal's caregivers at Ashley Gardens in Mount Vernon, WA for their sensitive and loving care.

A private service will be held in Darrington.
