Henrietta (Hennie) Jenny Brooks       May 26 1942 – Jan 12 2021

"Are you saved?" Those were the first words she would say when meeting new people. A wonderful  and caring wife, mother, and grandmother went to be with her Lord and savior early Tuesday morning.  She was surrounded by her family and had sadly spent the last year succumbing to Dementia. Mom began her life in Borger, Holland on a little farm during the second world war. After the war, she and her family sailed across the ocean to America for a new start. They lived on the east coast in North Carolina for a while before moving and settling in Mount Vernon, WA. Mom went through High school and college here and while working at a frozen food cannery in Burlington she met the love of her life, Larry.  They married in 1966 and after making a home they welcomed their first child (Todd) in 1969 and second (Matthu) in 1972. after us kids were old enough and well into school years, Mom went back to college herself and earned a BA in Teaching from WWU.  Shortly afterwards she was offered a position teaching at Evergreen Elementary school teaching 2 ^nd /3 ^rd grades. She loved teaching and her students with all her heart and they loved her. They will never forget the walks around the playground during recess and the many educational field trips she took them on. Her golden rules she always made sure they knew were  "Always be nice to one another, Always say Please and Thank you". She taught for 29 years and retired in 2013. She enjoyed being retired but missed teaching. Hennie is survived by her Husband of 54 years (Larry J), her oldest son (Todd) and his 2 children (Steven & Alissya), her youngest son (Matthu) and his family, her oldest brother (Jim) and his family, her youngest brother (Jack) and his family, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law (Lorin and Clara), and the many extended family members and friends. A lifelong Christian and dedicated member of Avon United Methodist Church, Mom's faith in her belief was the strongest of anyone I've ever known and it showed when you talked to her. Heaven gained an angel today and left a lifetime of fond memories to those who knew her. No service will be conducted at her request. She will be buried at Hawthorn Memorial Park in Mount Vernon. To quote a tribute "never forgotten, always an inspiration". She would want this obituary to end as it started, with her asking…"are you saved?"
