Isabel M. Stewart, 83, a resident of Mount Vernon, passed away peacefully in her home on October 14, 2017. She was born April 27,1934 to Leslie E. Hayton and Frances (Davis) Hayton. She attended Conway Elementary School and graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1952. She married her high school sweetheart, Duane Finsen, in 1952. Their first daughter, Cynthia, was born in 1953 and their second daughter, Sharon, was born in 1957. She and Duane were divorced in 1987. She married her second husband, Merrill Grube, in 1990, and remained together until his death in 2004. In 2007, she married her third husband, David Stewart, who she remained married to until her passing.
Isabel was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church where she was very active and sang in the choir. She was also a member of The D.A.R, The Daughters of the Pioneers, the Skagit Valley Hospital Auxiliary, and was a long time volunteer at the hospital. Over the years she also worked as a bookkeeper and an office manager at various places. Isabel enjoyed square dancing, camping, traveling, quilting, sewing, and spending time with her loved ones, including her granddog Sophie.
Isabel is survived by her husband of 10 years, David, of Mount Vernon, her brother David (Alice) Hayton, daughter Sharon (Curtis) Thompson, granddaughter Emily Thompson, stepchildren Julie (Dale) Harris, Laurie (John) Brown, Michael Stewart, and Karen Stewart. She is also survived by her step-grandchildren, Travis, Amanda, Abigail, Brandon, and Emily, along with numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter Cynthia, her parents Leslie and Frances, and older brothers Norman and Dick.
Isabel lived her life with grace, generosity, and deep faith. She was a kind and gentle soul and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
