Obituary

On June 3, 2023, Janet Chase Dahl passed away peacefully in Bellingham, after a short illness at the age of 84.

She was born on February 24, 1939, to Albert and Myrtle Hale Hart in Tacoma, Washington. Her family moved to Mount Vernon in 1946. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1957, then went on to the University of Washington.

In 1958, she started a 36-year banking career at Rainier Bank as it evolved and got acquired throughout the years, with a majority of her time at the Sedro Woolley branch until her retirement in 1994.

Janet married Lester Koetje in 1960, together they had a son Douglas.

In 1984, Janet met the love of her life, Ernest Dahl. They were happily married for 24 years, until his death in 2008. Ernie showed her the world. He was her soul mate. Ernie loved to sing country western music, and Janet loved listening to Ernie sing. They enjoyed playing cribbage and traveling with Pat & Norm Dahl. Janet was allergic to horses, until she met Ernie, then it did not bother her. Chase and Dahl were a perfect match. He liked to cook, and she liked to clean up the mess.

Janet organized her 1957 Mount Vernon High School class reunions starting in 1967 to 2022, keeping her class together throughout the years. She served as the treasurer of the United General Hospital Auxiliary guild from 2002 to 2023, raising countless dollars for the hospital and their patients. In addition, she served as the Skagit County Republican Party treasurer until her retirement in 2019 and the present Skagit County Republican Women's treasurer.

Janet is survived by her son Douglas Chase in Vero Beach, FL, a granddaughter Kiley Chase in Las Vegas, NV, and grandson, Hunter Chase in Vero Beach, FL. Sister, Bonnie Warnecke in Mount Vernon. Niece, Susie Gardner Deyo (Tim) in La Conner. Stepsons, Dan Dahl (Lorri), children (Richard, Jake, Lauren) and David Dahl (Pam), daughter Katlin.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ernst Dahl, and daughter in law Danielle Chase.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at 11:00am at Bow Cemetery, Bow, WA with a reception to follow at the Allen Firehouse.
