Janet was born July 17, 1942, in Mount Vernon, WA.  She was the third child born to Sigurd and Thordys (Rodvelt) Benson, joining older siblings, Jerry (Gerald) and Joyce.  The family lived in Bow and Burlington, Washington and lived on a farm in both of those communities.

A 1960 graduate of Burlington-Edison High School, Janet went on to Washington State University and earned a bachelor's degree with a major in Home Economics.  After graduation Janet returned to Bow and worked at Skagit State Bank in Burlington.

Janet married Gary Navert in 1971,( also a B-E HS graduate) and together their life took them many places and made many friends.  Their son Philip was born in 1974, and as a family they were very active in school, church and  went on many adventures as a family.

Sewing was a particularly important skill and Janet was great at it.  She made many beautiful and useful items and that led to selling her creations at many local craft fairs.  She became a "destination" booth at several of them. She started making holiday items, particularly Snow people with so much personality they would melt your heart!  She also made beautiful quilts, which she gifted to many of her family members.

Cooking was also something Janet excelled at, especially traditional Norwegian fare.  Nieces, nephews, and cousins learned how on how to make Lefse, a traditional treasured part of a proper holiday meal in her family!

As a member of Edison Lutheran Church, the Skagit County chapter of the Territorial Daughters of Washington, and Fidalgo Island Quilters among other organizations, Janet wasn't just a member but actively participated in any way she could be helpful.

Janet is preceded in death by her husband Gary; her brother Jerry (Gerald) Benson (Sharon); parents Thordys and Sigurd Benson.  She is survived by her son Philip (Karlene), her sister Joyce Laugerlund (Oscar); and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family; and a host of dear friends.

A memorial celebration of Janet's life will take place Saturday, April 13th, 2024 at Edison Lutheran Church, 14201 Church Rd, Bow, WA at 2:30 PM.  Light refreshments will be served after the service in the Fellowship Hall.  A family graveside service will be held earlier.
