Janice Elaine Gourley (Strong), 81, of Mount Vernon, peacefully passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2026, surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with multiple health issues.

Janice was born in 1944 in Bellingham, Washington, to Adrian and Florence Strong. She graduated from Burlington-Edison High School in 1962 and was a member of the Daughters of the Eastern Star. Janice was part of a very large Canadian family and greatly enjoyed traveling with her immediate family to visit her extended relatives in Canada.

In 1983, she married Richard "Dick" Gourley, blending their families with love and joy. After Dick's retirement from Thrifty Foods in 1995, the couple enjoyed dividing their time between Tucson, Arizona, and Whidbey Island, Washington.

Janice loved playing golf and was always on the lookout for the perfect club to improve her game. She enjoyed crafting and was especially talented at quilting and needlepoint, keeping herself happily busy with creative projects. An avid traveler, Janice often explored new places alongside her husband and their beloved dogs. Her warmth, humor, and adventurous spirit touched all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Gourley; her parents, Adrian and Florence Strong; and her brother, David Strong.

Janice is lovingly survived by her sons, Ken Jenkins, Ron Jenkins, and Padraic Gourley (Jankey); daughters, Alysse Albert (Peter) and Jean Yarrow (Mike); granddaughters, Natalie, Karolina, Erica, and Jainaba; and grandsons, Kevin, Jason (Selina), Shawn, Bubacarr, and Jonathan.

Janice will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony on Friday February 20th, 2026.

The family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate Janice's life at Hawthorne Funeral Home on Friday, February 20, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
