Jewell Stokes passed away March 29, 2011 in Mount Vernon, WA. She was born September 12, 1925 in Hugo, Oklahoma. Jewell married Ed Stokes on March 14, 1942 in Amarillo, Texas. They moved to Redlands, California and in 1959 they moved to Riverside, California to be closer to Ed's work. Jewell went to work with the Alvord School District working her way up to Director of Food Services. Later she went to work as Director of Food Services at California Baptist College. Jewell worked various jobs in the food service industry until she and Ed retired. They then moved to Anacortes, WA. They thought the State of Washington was the most beautiful place on earth. Ed and Jewell enjoyed the R.V. life making many trips to California with their 2 dogs Danny & Sandy to see their family and friends. They also liked going to Bluegrass festivals in Darrington. They love God and their church. Also loved playing Skip-bo and watching Mariner baseball. Ed and Jewell always enjoyed having friends and family over for a good cup of coffee. Jewell is survived by her sons, Chuck and wife (Chevela) Stokes of Mentone CA, Rick Stokes of Mount Vernon, WA, Doug and wife (Susan) Stokes of Mount Vernon, WA and Garre and wife (Heidi) Stokes of Marysville, WA; 2 brothers, Bill and wife (Marlyn) Baty of Redlands, CA and Gene and wife (Helen) Batyof Redlands, CA; 4 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. Jewell was preceded in death by husband of 63 years Edward; her mother and father, George and Cecil Baty; son, Larry; and brother, Leo Baty. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, April 15, 2011, at 1:00 pm, at the Skagit Baptist Church corner of Township and Jameson St. in Sedro-Woolley, WA, Rev. Bill Baty and Rev. Pat Towell are officiating. Memorials maybe made to Marla Baty and Sierra VanDyke for their missionary trip to South Africa, 9159 Peach Ave., Hesperia, CA 92345.
