John Forest Sweeney, 78, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2024, in Mount Vernon, WA. He was born on February 26, 1945, in Alexandria, LA to John and Mary Sweeney.
John graduated from Bolton High School, Alexandria LA before receiving an associate's degree from Leeward Community College, Pearl City, Hawaii. He then attended and got his bachelor's degree from St Martin's College, Lacey, WA.
John enlisted in the United States Navy on March 21, 1966, and was commissioned Ensign LDO 1977.
John served his country proudly and enjoyed a long career in the Navy until he retired in 1990. His service took him all over the world and he was stationed in many places including USS Dalgreen, USS Dubuque, Ship Repair Facility Pearl Harbor, HI, USS Tarawa, Naval Facility, Pacific Beach, WA, Navy Personnel Command, Washington DC, Naval Electronics System Command, Washington DC, and
Naval Ship Repair Facility, Subic Bay, Philippines.
John was also very involved with the Boy Scout's of America and was a troop leader and trained through Troop 12. After John retired, he was an avid Genealogist.
John met the love of his life Pauline and the two were married at Long Beach CA Naval Station in 1969.
John is survived by his wife Pauline Sweeney, son Douglas Sweeney, daughter in law Rebecca Sweeney,
and two grandchildren Kai Sweeney and Mia Sweeney. He is also survived by his sisters Gloria Noceti, Josephine Baguley, and Yvonne Hall, and many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lorena Sweeney, father John Francis Sweeney and stepmother Cynthia Sweeney, sister Geraldine Guillory and brother Paul Sweeney.
