John Vanderwal of Mount Vernon was called to glory on the morning of Tuesday April 3rd at the age of 73. He passed away at home lovingly surrounded by his family. Cancer took Dad's earthly body but we know that he rejoiced when he entered heaven where the love of his life, his wife Ann, was waiting for him
John was born in Oudeschoot, Netherlands on June 10, 1944 to Jan and Lipkje Vanderwal. In May of 1953 the family moved to the Hamilton, Ontario Canada and in 1961 moved to Bellflower CA.
John met Ann, the love of his life, at Rehoboth Christian Reformed Church. After a whirlwind courtship they were married on August 16, 1968 In 1978 the family moved to Mount Vernon.
John was a bricklayer for all his life. His skills as a mason were sought after, ranging from car washes to beautiful river rock fireplaces
John loved to camp, fish and take trips in his motorhome to see family.
John, is survived by his children, daughter Jennifer (Brad) Albrecht of Snohomish, WA, John (Shannon) Vanderwal of Mount Vernon WA, and daughter Michelle (Anthony) Smith of Mount Vernon WA; 9 grandchildren, sisters Hilda (Bob) Vermaat of Chilliwack, Canada, Mindy (Ernie) Williams Cerritos, CA, Lucy VanHulzen of Grants Pass, OR; Brothers Abe (Ann) Vanderwal of Sedro Woolley, WA, Ken (Sally) Vanderwal of Grand Rapids, MI and Paul (Gail) Vanderwal of Whittier, CA and many loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved wife Ann.
John's Celebration of Life service will be held at First Christian Reformed Church 701 W Blackburn St Mount Vernon WA 98273 on Monday, April 9 at 1:00pm
