Juanita Rose Gilfry, cherished mother, devoted educator, and loving friend, passed away on July 14, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on February 5, 1933, Juanita's life was a testament to perseverance, compassion, and the steadfast bonds of family and community.
Juanita graduated from high school in 1950, demonstrating early her commitment to excellence in all she undertook. She continued her education at Seattle University and Western Washington University, graduating magna cum laude in 1954—a reflection of her intellect and strong work ethic.
In 1953, Juanita married her beloved husband, Wesley. Family was always her heart’s center, and she was deeply proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her greatest pride, above all her accomplishments, was undoubtedly her loving and growing family.
A career as a teacher allowed Juanita to touch countless lives. She served in the Burlington Edison School District as well as schools in Camarillo and Bakersfield, California. Her dedication to her students and her colleagues left a meaningful mark and fostered enduring connections with generations of learners and educators alike. After retiring in 1986, Juanita's passion for learning and service continued to shine through her many activities and associations.
Juanita was blessed with a vibrant life rich in friendships, both within her family and her church, and among her students, coworkers, and neighbors. She delighted in crossword puzzles and word games, devoured books, appreciated music, and savored every moment spent with those she loved. Her involvement in church activities reflected her enduring faith and devotion to community. Ever an avid football fan, Juanita rejoiced in cheering on her favorite teams and sharing the thrill of the game with family and friends.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Connie Poore, Corinne White, Colette Peterson, and Caryl Robinson, and by her sons-in-law Leo Montgomery, Patrick White, and Scott Peterson. Though she endures in the memories of her loved ones, Juanita is now reunited with her husband Wesley, her son Paul, her sister and brother in-law Genevieve and Hubert Johnson, and sons-in-law Richard Poore and Tom Robinson, as well as her parents Floyd and Della Walker.
Those wishing to honor Juanita’s remarkable life are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at Faith Community Fellowship, 1427 Monte Vista Dr, Mount Vernon, WA, on June 21, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
Juanita’s legacy of warmth, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to her family and community lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
