Obituary

Karen Lynn Stubbs passed away at home on April 29, 2010 with her husband Bert at her side. Karen moved to Mount Vernon in 2007 from San Jose, California. She had just retired as the school secretary for Dilworth Elementary in the Cupertino School district and she wanted to be close to her daughter Danielle Hester and Danielle's children. She worked at a school because she loved working with and around children. That is when she was truly in her element. She especially loved working with children that needed extra care. That is why, besides taking a very active roll with her grandchildren, she volunteered to do classroom work in Mount Vernon school district. Karen was born in Palo Alto California on May 9, 1948 in what is now the Stanford University Hospital. She grew up in the Bay Area attending school in both San Francisco and Santa Clara California. In 1968 she was in the first graduating class of Wilcox High School in Santa Clara. In 1967 she met Albert (Bert) Stubbs, a Washington State native, who was stationed at the U.S. Naval Air Station Moffett Field in Mountain View California. They were married on September 28, 1968 after Bert was discharged from the US Navy in Bethel Lutheran Church located in Santa Clara California. They first lived in Mountain View California before settling in San Jose California. Together they had two children; Albert Christopher (Chris) Stubbs of Jacksonville Florida and Danielle Hester of Mount Vernon. Karen is survived by her husband Bert of Mount Vernon, Daughter Danielle Marie Hester, her three daughters Ashley Marie, Sarah Michelle and Madison Jo Hester of Mount Vernon, Son Albert Christopher (Chris) and his two daughters Courtney Danielle and Victoria Elizabeth Stubbs of Jacksonville Florida, Mother Claire Marie Moore of Prescott Arizona, Sister Virginia Smith of Prescott Arizona, Sister Cheryl Gozy of Sacramento California and brother Robert Smith of Hollywood Florida. Remembrances may be sent to Mount Vernon School District Special Services. Donations can be written to MVSD #320 and can be sent to: Special Services 920 S. 2nd St. Mount Vernon, WA 98273 A memorial service will be held at the Hawthorne Funeral Home at 1 PM Saturday May 8, 2010
