Kathy passed away peacefully from ovarian cancer on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at the family home. She was 63 years old. Kathryn Louise Kanske Dills was born in Everett, Washington on April 6, 1944. She lived in Everett until 4th grade. She then moved with her family to Similk Beach. In 8th grade she moved to Mount Vernon and graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1962. After high school she worked at General Telephone and Skagit County Medical Bureau where she made many friends. She met and married Don Dills and they had three children, Melissa, Steven and Randy. She spent many years raising her children. After they were grown, she worked as a file clerk for Dr. Barb Pringle, Dr. Bob Pringle and Dr. Nadine Burrington at North Cascade Women's Clinic. She was devoted to her family and considered her husband and children her greatest joy. She had many hobbies including gardening, reading, and decoupaging soap and pump bottles. Kathy also logged thousands of miles as an armchair traveler. She touched many lives with her kind heart, her unwavering concern for others and her wry sense of humor. Kathy is survived by her husband, Don; children Melissa Smith (Mark) of Maple Valley, Washington; Steven Dills (Lisa) of Sedro-Woolley and Randy Dills of Champaign, Illinois; grandchildren: Madeline and Andrew Smith and Timothy and Nathan Dills. She is also survived by brothers Phillip (Karen) Kanske, Duane (Debbie) Kanske and sister Barb (Charlie) Brister, sisters-in-law Edna Adkins and Esta Mae Asher, mother-in-law Edna Dills and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her lifelong friend Mary Welch. She was preceded in death by her mother and father Steve and Virginia Kanske and father-in-law Ray Dills. Kathy especially wanted to thank Dr. Theodore Kim, Dr. Suzanne Robertson, the entire staff at the Skagit Valley Regional Cancer Center and the Skagit Hospice foundation for the loving care they gave her. As well as suffering from ovarian cancer, Kathy was also a long time breast cancer survivor. Memorials may be sent to the Skagit Valley Regional Cancer Care Center in care of the Skagit Valley Hospital Foundation.
