IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Katrina
Johnson
July 12, 1936 – March 17, 2022
Katrina Lee Johnson fell asleep in death on March 17, 2022. She was born on July 12, 1936, in Ellington Missouri, to Charles Thomas Holt and Bertha Lee Holt. Living a simple life her parents taught her the value of life and an appreciation for the Creator. Katrina was just 3 years old when the family moved from Missouri to Colorado, where her father worked in a logging camp. While in Colorado she soon found out that she was going to have a sibling. Living in a single room cabin in a logging camp was not easy, especially during the cold times and when the wind blew. Her mother, always being resourceful, would gather newspapers from other loggers, make a wheat paste to glue the newspapers to the walls which kept the draft down. With her brother being born, her father knew better accommodations would be needed. He heard from family in Washington State, that work was plentiful, and the weather was milder. So, he hobo on a train to Washington, leaving the family in Colorado to get a job. He soon was logging again and within a few months earned enough money to buy a vehicle. He drove back to Colorado to pick up the family, and bring them to Washington, where they settled in Whatcom County. There Katrina grew up and went to school while World War II was going on. It was during this time that Jehovah's Witnesses visited the Holt family for the first time. Soon, a Bible study was started, and Katrina would sit-in on the Bible Study with her mother. She loved to read, and the more she read the Bible, the more her appreciation for the Creator grew. So, on May 22, 1949, at the age of 12 she dedicated her life as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. The following years, up through high school, helped her grow into a person who loved to help other people. She loved to sing and entertain. So, naturally in High School she was sought after, for choir, drama, and leadership roles. During her senior year 1954 she was crowned Carnival Queen of Meridian High School. In her Senior yearbook she wrote her secret ambition was to get married. It seems she had met a young man and was thinking about the future with him. Duane Lynn Johnson was that man who caught her eye, and on August 3 rd , 1956, they were married. Duane and Katrina settled in the Alger area of Skagit County where they built a modest home off Old Hwy 99 N. Soon children came in the picture in 1957 Roderick, 1959 Michael, 1963 Randal, 1964 Angie and then 1965 Mark. Life as a mother of 5 children must not have been easy, always cleaning, cooking, and mending clothes. It's those skills that she honed when she was young, that worked for her to the end. She cooked good meals that the family enjoyed, developing the skills of a seamstress not only making clothes for herself and her children but also others that showed her talent and generosity. Her love for the Bible, that she taught to her children and others, is not to be overlooked. Katrina enjoyed 52 years of marriage to Duane till his death in 2009. She developed friendships with thousands because of her love for Jehovah and his people. Looking back, her children may have felt that their mother was a little crazy at times, however, after further review they realized that it was probably them that made her act that way. In her later years, due to her health she became a resident of Life Care Center till her death. Still smiling, singing, and helping in mending clothes the staff and residence of Life Care Center. They appreciated her as much as her family, and we thank them for their loving care. She is proceeded in death by her parents Tom and Bertha Holt, husband Duane Johnson, brother Donald Ray Holt. She is survived by her children Roderick his wife Lorreta Johnson, Michael his wife Kathryn Johnson, Randal his wife Angela Johnson, Angie her husband Joe Simonds, Mark his wife Dawn Johnson, and 15 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren.
