Obituary

Kevin Christopher Sprouse, 57, passed away Nov. 7th, 2023 surrounded by his family at Swedish Hospital in Seattle after suffering a massive stroke the evening prior.

Kevin was born March 15, 1966 to Meade and Geri Sprouse. He joined older brother Meade and Rick to complete their family of 5.

Kevin graduated from Mount Vernon High School with the class of 1984. In his younger years Kevin worked in Alaska on a fishing boat, the Yardarm Knot. He was an excellent climber and soon got a job with Asplundh clearing trees and limbs away from the power lines for Seattle City Light. Over the last 10+ years Kevin worked for Kemp West of Snohomish where he was employed as an arborist.

Kevin was a hard worker (one of those 110% guys, his brother called him) and his work ethic and sense of humor will forever be remembered by all who knew him. He was meticulous with his things and his yard was a true work of art. His stuff was always tight!

In 1998 Kevin married Chrissy Shields and together they had 2 children: a girl, Tatum in 1999 and 4 years later in 2003, a boy, Lane.  He loved his children deeply and enjoyed watching them grow, teaching them about life and sharing his world with them.

And what a world it was! Kevin loved animals of all shapes and sizes. It started at an early age with goldfish, hamsters and garter snakes. Later Kevin had dogs, cats, snakes, spiders (tarantulas), horned toads, caimans, lizards and every kind of fish you could imagine.

Kevin loved the outdoors. He spent many years fishing, hunting and crabbing the Pacific Northwest. When the Skagit was clear and the fish were here you could pretty much guarantee that Kevin was on the river.

Then there was his beloved Raiders. He saw the Oakland Raiders on TV at an early age (he swears he remembers the "Heidi" game in 1968 when he was almost 3) and he was a dedicated fan for life. No, more like a dedicated superfan. He wore a "21" jersey (Cliff Branch) at an early age and continued to wear them (especially on game day) right up until his passing. His garage is a collection of Raiders items too numerous to count.

At the age of 9, Meade took him to see the movie "Jaws" and his love of sharks was born. Kevin was an accomplished certified diver as well as an excellent artist. His drawings of sharks, rock bands and of course, the Raiders are fantastic.

Kevin is survived by his children, Tatum and Lane Sprouse, brother Meade Sprouse (Jill), 3 nephews: Clayton (Nicole), Baxter and Wilson Sprouse, Aunt Sara Seward and 3 cousins: Kristy Kottkey (Kevin), Matt (Theltsie) Seward and Lori (Shami) Campbell. He is also survived by his best friend, Steve (Majestyk) Hoover.

He was preceded in death by his brother Rick in 2000, his father Meade Sr. in 2020 and his mother Geri in 2022.

A celebration of Kevin's life will be held Tuesday, Dec. 5th at 2:00pm at Bertelsen Winery, 20598 Starbird Rd. Mount Vernon, WA.

Memorials for Kevin may be sent to Skagit Regional Health Foundation, Cardiac Campaign, P.O. Box 1376, Mount Vernon, WA. 98273.
