Larry passed away peacefully on Feb. 6th, 2017 at Ashley Gardens Memory Care Center in Mount Vernon, WA. The family would like to thank the staff there for the wonderful care he received during his 15 months there.
He was born in Seattle, WA. on May 26, 1935 to George and Violet McKean. He spent his early years in North Bend, WA. He graduated from high school in Hermiston, Oregon
with honors. He was a star basketball player and was Student Body President in his junior and senior years.
His career at the Boeing Co. started in 1953 as an hourly production worker. After various assignments he moved to his first Human Resources position in 1966 as a Manager. He assumed the post of Vice President of Human Resources and Labor Relations in 1989 and Senior Vice president of Human Resources in 1994.
In 1991 he became the first Human Resource Vice President to be named to the company's Executive Council.
He was a board member of the Human Resources Executive Council of the Aerospace Industries Association as well as the National Labor Policy Association, the Organization Resources Council and the Business Advisory Council of the National Alliance of Business.
He also was on the board of directors at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida.
He retired in 1997 to LaConner, WA. where he and his wife Jackie enjoyed a long and happy retirement in Shelter Bay.
Larry was a quiet man who liked to observe instead of being observed. He had a kind and giving heart. He was happiest in the woods or on the water. Hunting and fishing were his greatest joys.
Larry is survived by his wife Jackie of 41 years. He was a loving father to his two daughters Teresa McKean of Renton, WA. and Tammy Morgan (Don) of Summerville, So. Carolina, his five grandchildren Matt Failor, Shannon Hope (Tom) Nichole Bachelder (Jeremiah) Jacob Morgan (Shaylin) and Katie Shibale. With these grandchildren came ten Great Grandchildren.
A Celebration of his Life will be held Sunday, March 5th, 2017, 2 PM at Maple Hall in Downtown LaConner, WA.
