Obituary

Lee Henry Stuber, 73, was born on December 18, 1952, in Anacortes, Washington, and passed away on February 9, 2026. Lee fought a courageous battle with cancer, making the long drive from Anacortes to UW Medicine in Seattle for treatment over the last five years.

Lee was a lifelong resident of Anacortes, with breaks to serve in the Air Force, work in the Alaska fishing industry, and take on various carpentry and mechanical jobs. He took his role as a father seriously and was always involved in the activities his children pursued.

He had many interests, including gardening, riding motorcycles, canoeing, music, and traveling. For the last twelve years, he especially enjoyed traveling in the van he converted into a camper, exploring the West Coast and Mexico. He collected countless stories from those trips and deeply missed being able to travel during the last couple of years as his health declined.

Lee became a Master Gardener and loved volunteering with the group, tending his organic garden, and even trying his hand at beekeeping—though the hive only lasted a year, he always said it was a good idea at the time. He also became accredited in teaching qi gong. In his search for a healthier lifestyle, he adopted a vegan diet for many years before eventually adding seafood back into his meals during his cancer treatment. His family was always kept on their toes, wondering what he might do next and worrying about him in the way you do when someone lives life fully on their own terms.

Lee was lovingly cared for at the end of his life by his daughter Sundee and her family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Burl and Vera Stuber. He is survived by his sisters, Dona DaSilva of Spokane and Laurie Pfeifer of Cle Elum; his children, Sundee Johnson of Burlington, Leif Christensen of Anacortes, Shannon Hyland of Anacortes as well as his former wife Linda Stuber of Anacortes.

Memorial services are pending.
