Leo O. Fleming Jr.
Leo passed away peacefully on Monday February 9, 2026, in Council Bluffs IA with his wife Norma, daughter Robin and stepdaughter Valerie by his side.
Leo was born on February 19, 1937, in Council Bluffs IA to Leo Sr and Wilma (Hayes) Fleming.
Leo graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Engineer. While serving his country at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, he met his late wife Shirley Larson, his wife of 50 years. Together they raised 6 children.
After the Navy, Leo worked at the pole yard in Conway WA and Skagit Architectural in Mt. Vernon WA where he retired from.
Leo enjoyed fishing, camping, the ocean and trips to Reno. He loved spending time with his family and helping his children with handy man services.
In 2010 Leo returned to Iowa to attend his brother Ted's funeral. While in Iowa, Leo reconnected with old friends, including his high school sweetheart Norma Gates. Leo later returned to Iowa to attend his 55th class reunion. He invited Norma to be his date. That is when they knew they were meant to spend the rest of their lives together. Leo and Norma were married on May 1st, 2011.
Leo is survived by his wife Norma, daughters: Linda Dills, Robin (Tom) Claybo, Michelle (Mike) Hammer, Judy (Brady) Bacon and step-daughter Valerie Gates. His grandchildren, Serena (Eric) Borror, Adam (Shelbi) Fleming, Dave Koehler, Travis (Chrissi) Dills, Patrick (Makenzie) Bacon, Anthony (Mallory) Bacon, Joe (Wendy) Fleming, Jeffrey (Jesseka) Claybo, Zachary (Alisa) Bacon, Kevin (Sharon) Claybo.
Leo also has 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Shirley, son's Jeffrey Fleming, Brian Fleming and his siblings Ted, Joann & Perry.
Private graveside services will be held at Hawthorn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's and Dementia Research.
