IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Levi Alan
Dewitt Koetje
May 15, 1991 – May 21, 2021
Levi Alan Dewitt Koetje passed away in a car accident on May 21st, 2021 in Carmel, California.
Levi was born in Mount Vernon, Washington to parents Vivian and Rick Koetje on May 15th, 1991. He grew up and attended various schools in Mount Vernon and was actively involved in several sports and club activities throughout that time. Some of his proudest accomplishments include the earned titles of All American and three-time State wrestler.
Upon graduation from Mount Vernon High school in 2009, Levi spent time furthering his education at Skagit Valley College, and transferred to Eastern Washington University after returning home from a fishing season in the fall of 2012. It was at Eastern that he met the love of his life, Sierra. In 2016, Levi graduated with his Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science.
After completing his degree, Levi realized that he had been fortunate enough to find his true calling and life's passion at a young age, and decided to continue commercial fishing. Levi began his fishing career at the age of 15 with his father Rick, and spent his summers salmon fishing in Alaska every year since. Post graduation he expanded his scope to include squid and crabbing, and fished the Pacific coastline year-round.
In December of 2017, Levi proposed to Sierra while snorkeling on a family trip in Jamaica. They spent the next two years together working and traveling the world before getting married in September of 2019 in Cheney, Washington. They welcomed their daughter Averie into the world January of 2021, and she was the light of his life.
In his free time, Levi loved traveling and going on "adventures". He was a true "yes man" at heart and was up for anything and everything. He was drawn to the outdoors in particular; hunting, making fires, hiking, camping, snorkeling and scuba diving. He was the ultimate handyman and loved working on his truck, clearing trees, home projects-really anything that involved power tools or chainsaws! Every fall he looked forward to continuing the family tradition of setting up camp and deer hunting at the "hunting tent" in Twisp, Washington. Above all, Levi valued spending time with family.
Levi is survived by his wife Sierra; daughter Averie; parents Rick (Li-Che Chu) and Vivian (Mark); sisters Katlyn (Chad) Koetje and Lexie (Tim) Woodmansee, nephews Chase and Grady; niece Shaylee; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; his beloved dog Arya; as well as his fisherman family and friends from all walks of life.
Although taken too soon, Levi truly lived more in his 30 years than most do in a lifetime. He woke up each day with purpose, and filled his days with love, laughter, and adventure. He will be remembered forever as a devoted father and husband, caring son and brother, fun uncle, reliable friend, and hard-working fisherman.
A celebration of Levi's life will be held on Saturday, June 5th at 3:00 pm at a private residence, 24393 Gunderson Ridge Drive,
Mount Vernon, WA 98273.
