Nana Noon" "Gee-Gee" Loretta June Arnott Pierce, born November 14, 1921 died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, July 21, 2011, in Anacortes, WA. June was survived by her daughter Gail Lynn Douglas, son-in-law John Freeman Douglas, grandson Matthew John Douglas and great grand-daughter Ambriah Lynn Douglas of Anacortes, Washington. Also, Debra Jean Pierce Porter, son-in-law John Gregory Porter, and grand-daughters Molly Claire Porter and Abigail Virginia Porter of Bakersfield, California. Mom is also survived by grandson Christopher Monte Pierce of Jonesboro, Arkansas. Loretta June's son, William Howard Pierce died in 1987, Big Sandy, Tennessee. June was also preceded in death by her parents Mary McCarthy Houser and Howard Houser of Bellingham, Washington. Her first husband, Bob Arnott of Bellingham, Washington, was killed first hour of the attack on Pearl Harbor in World War II. June's soul-mate and husband of 56 years, passed on in 2002, with June being the selfless care-giver, as dad suffered Alzheimer's disease in his later years. Mother was raised in a lively home where religion and politics were favorite subjects! She was known as an immaculate house keeper and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. She has a great sense of humor. When dad returned home following WWII, they lived in Maryland. They moved to Corona, California in 1951, where mother became a Christian and became active in Crossroads Christian Church. She loved her various church jobs including wedding consultant. In 1969, the family moved to China Lake, California. Mom took child development classes and taught at the China Lake Nursery School. In 1978, June and Bill retired to Big Sandy, Tennessee (Dad's beloved boyhood home), where dad built their dream house on the Kentucky Lake. In retirement, June learned to dive in a pool and took piano and organ lessons. She loved playing and singing old hymns. Mother was active in Big Sandy First Baptist Church and the Baptist Women's group. 1997 brought them back to California (Bakersfield). June loved her many friends at Christ's Church of the Valley. Shortly after dad passed away, mom started ministering to the wonderful women at the Bakersfield Women's Homeless Shelter. Her final happy years were spent in Anacortes and her church home was Anacortes Christian Church. Mother was loved by all she met and will be greatly missed. The entire family thanks the dedicated staff at Fidalgo Care Center and Island Hospital for their loving care of June. Mother treasured her past and was excited about her future!
