Ovenell
February 7, 1926 – June 2, 2018
Lyle R. Ovenell 92, lifelong resident of Burlington in the beautiful Skagit Valley, passed away at his home on June 2, 2018. He was born in Burlington on February 7, 1926, to James T. and Mary (Dannenmiller) Ovenell, a pioneer family. Lyle attended Burlington Schools, graduating early from Burlington High School with the class of 1944, to join the Navy during WWII.
He returned home in 1946 and went to work with his father and brother, farming in Burlington on the Cloverleaf Farm and in Concrete at the Double O Ranch.
On February 7, 1948 he married Therese M. O'Leary and together they raised five children on the Cloverleaf Farm just outside of Burlington.
Lyle worked in farming all of his life, either alongside his father, brother, sons and daughters or as a businessman providing guidance and wisdom along the way.
Lyle lived a very full life, out of the spotlight as much as possible. Thoughtful, kind, generous a naturally quiet man known for only speaking when he had something important to say, he always lead by example and was active in many organizations.
He is survived by his children Nancy Rockwood; Andrea (Terry) Martin; Jim Ovenell; Jeff (Kristal) Ovenell; Judy (Arturo) Vivanco; grandchildren, Kurt (Gweynn) Archer, Melissa (Tom) Heller, Kym Rockwood, Shelby Davis, Erin Rockwood, Adam Ovenell, Dr. Kelsie Ovenell, Tito (Jen) Vivanco, Pedro Vivanco, Kevin Vivanco, Chris Vivanco; great-grandchildren, Kyle, Katie and Kaleb Archer, Erika and Alex Heller, Rock Ocasio, Chloe Davis, Carter Griffen-Rockwood, Eric Erlenbach, 2 step-grandchildren and 9 step-great-grandchildren, sister-in-laws Eleanor Ovenell and family; Janette McPherson and family, numerous extended family and his special friend Evelyn Youngquist.
Lyle is preceded in death by his wife, Therese, his parents, infant sister, brother, Norman Ovenell, and daughter-in-law, Charlene Ovenell.
There will be a viewing for Lyle at Hawthorne Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Washington on June 11th from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., a rosary will be at St. Charles Catholic Church in Burlington, Washington that same day at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be the following day, June 12th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles, with a reception to follow in the social hall.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in Lyle's memory to the St. Charles Building Fund, 927 Peterson Rd, Burlington WA, 98233, to the Lyle and Therese Ovenell Family Scholarship c/o Burlington-Edison Alumni Foundation, P.O. Box 350, Burlington, WA 98233 or Hospice of the NW, 227 Freeway Dr A, Mt Vernon, WA 98273.
