Obituary

Marguerite was born in Mount Vernon, Washington to Edward and Tyra (Elde) Alm on May 21, 1929. She passed away on January 24, 2015 after a short courageous battle with cancer. Marguerite grew up on McLean Road in west Mount Vernon and graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1947. She married Allen E. Johnson on September 12, 1952. Her daughter, Barbara, was born in 1954 and Grace followed in 1956. Marguerite drove school bus for the Mount Vernon School District for 24-1/2 years, retiring in 1998. She spent many summers as field boss/checker and bus driver for Egbers Bros. Farms. She would often say she loved to work; and working in her yard gave her the greatest joy. Al and Marguerite were married 39 years before he passed away in 1991. In 1998 she moved into town'. Marguerite was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Over the years, she was involved in Women's Missionary Fellowship, taught Sunday school and served as a deaconess. In recent years she was active in the Ambassador Class and her Wednesday home group. She was a faithful supporter of missionaries and would often write an extra' check to help cover special needs. She loved spending time with family and friendsand always had coffee and goodies to share. Marguerite was part of a birthday group that was formed in 1958though some of the members have changed over the years, they continue to meet. Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband, Allen, her parents, Edward and Tyra Alm, her brother-in law, Edwin Walker, sister-in-law LaRene Wallin and nephew, Bruce Walker. She is survived by her daughters Barbara (Brad) Voth, Grace (George) Arnold and grandchildren, Scott Voth, Kristi Voth, Blake Arnold, Alexis Arnold as well as her sister, Eldora Walker, sister-in-law, Lillian (Newton) Nelson and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends who thought of her has their dear friend, second mom and confidante. Memorials may be given to Emmanuel Baptist Church, Missionary Fund. A special thanks to Dr. Gjerset and his nurse, Nancy as well as the caring staff in the Skagit Regional Cancer Center. We also wish to recognize the care and compassion shown by Hospice and Home Instead Senior Care for their support in her final days at home. Private family graveside services will be held on Friday, February 6. The memorial service will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church on Friday, February 6 at 2:30 p.m. with coffee and fellowship to follow.
