IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marian
Overby
February 27, 1938 – March 14, 2021
Marian Overby, 83, of Big Lake Washington passed away peacefully Sunday March 14, 2021. She was born February 27 th , 1938 to Christian and Irene Berg in New Effington, South Dakota.
Marian graduated a valedictorian from New Effington High School in 1955. In September of that same year, she met Alf Overby in Minneapolis Minnesota. Little did she know, but she had just met her future husband. On July 7 th , 1956 they married in New Effington and remained happily married for 58 years.
The couple moved to Big Lake Washington in 1958, where they started their family. They raised three boys, Butch, Terry, and Brian who were blessed to grow up in a loving home. Family always came first within the household, allowing the boys to join in on many vacations and outings over the years. The value of family and hard work, were only a few of the many lessons instilled in the boys.
Marian enjoyed all holidays and sharing them with family. She decorated, cooked, and baked for every occasion, with Christmas being her favorite. Keeping her Norwegian heritage alive through baking, Lefsa and Pizzelles were staples for all holidays.
She was a member of the Sons of Norway Lodge and served as Treasurer for many years. Her and Alf attended all meetings, helped managed the lodge, and coordinated many events over the years.
Grandchildren became a staple later in her life, and she was fortunate to enjoy many years with them. She ensured their every need was taken care of and loved being surrounded by them any chance she could. They learned how to play hand and foot, her favorite card game, and spent many rainy days playing endless games. She taught them how to make lefsa and told stories of the family heritage, infusing her love for them into their minds forever.
One of her many joys was talking with her sister Connie. Even though the sisters were thousands of miles apart, they would chat on the phone for hours to catch up. No matter how long between phone calls, the sisters never lost touch and could always pick up conversation easily.
Marian is survived by, son Butch and wife Narda, son Terry, and son Brian and wife Debi. She left behind 5 grandchildren, Cassandra, Kelsey, Kayla, Lacey and Tyler Overby as well as two great grandchildren.
