Marilyn Virgene Floodeen, 94, died Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett, WA, with her family gathered by her side. Marilyn was born September 10, 1927, in DeKalb, Illinois, to Eugene (Gene) and Ruth Stone. In 1947 Marilyn graduated with an AA degree from North Park Junior College, Chicago, IL. She received a BS degree in Behavioral Science from College of Notre Dame, Belmont, CA, in 1985. She married Eldon Rodney Floodeen on September 10, 1949. They started married life in Seattle, WA, before moving to San Francisco, CA, and then San Carlos, CA. They were blessed with three children; Gordon, Eric and Jane Ellen. Marilyn and Eldon moved to Mount Vernon, WA, in 1991. Marilyn enjoyed working with young children.
She was a teacher at Peninsula Covenant Preschool in Redwood City, CA, from 1967 to 1972, and then served as the Director of the Preschool from 1973 to 1989, while at the same time earning her BS degree. In retirement, Marilyn continued her work with children as a volunteer with Washington Headstart and SPARC (Skagit Preschool & Resource Center). After Eldon's death in 2016, Marilyn also volunteered with SWSS (Skagit Widowed Support Services).
Marilyn has been a member of Bethany Covenant Church since moving to Mount Vernon in 1991. She was an amazing gardener with a deck overflowing with beautiful and colorful flowers. She loved visiting with family and friends. She also enjoyed watching sports of all kinds!
Marilyn is survived by her sister, Jane Stone; her children Gordon (Linda) Floodeen, Eric Floodeen, Jane Ellen Floodeen; four grandchildren (Carl, Kyrstin, Andrew, Carolyn), and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Eldon and her daughter-in-law Laura.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service for Marilyn at Bethany Covenant Church in Mount Vernon on Friday, April 22, at 2:00 PM.
