IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marion Julia
Harmon
October 25, 1924 – November 9, 2021
Marion Julia Harmon was called home by Jesus on November 9, 2021 in Burlington, Washington just days after her 97 th birthday. Her husband, Hugh, was with her as she departed.
Marion was born October 25, 1924 to Hilda and Albert Lurker in Los Angeles, California where she was raised with her older sister and best friend Margie. She received her degree in nursing and worked in that field for two years until she married Hugh Harmon on January 22, 1949.
Hugh was a Los Angeles City Fireman, a job that required varying shifts and days off. Marion was the one to maintain the home front and provide the daily stability for their three children; Susan (b.1950), Donald (b.1951) and Carol (b.1958).
Marion was a constant volunteer, including Sunday school teacher, church board member, polling place worker, dressing as a clown to visit children in hospitals, as an aide in the therapeutic Ride-to-Walk horseback riding program for children and adults with special needs, and at Children of the Valley, just to cite a few.
Marion had many passions. She enjoyed gardening, cooking for friends and family, traveling domestically and internationally, sewing, and she loved to paint. Even in her last years she was not ready to give up her easel, just in case she got back to painting. She loved the beach, and for many years she and Hugh maintained a vacation house at Morro Bay, California, where they, family, and friends created wonderful memories together. Marion spent many hours reading the Bible, attending Bible study groups throughout her lifetime, and always found a church home wherever they lived. At the time of her passing Marion was a member of Bethany Covenant Church.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents, sister, two brothers-in-law, and many great friends she and Hugh had made over the years. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Hugh; children Susan Salas (Michael), Donald Harmon (Barbara), Carol Harmon-Watilo (Eric); sister-in-law Betty Harmon, seven grandchildren and spouses, 14 great-grandchildren, six nieces, one nephew and their families.
A private, family Celebration of Life event will take place at a later date.
