MG Vanderpool Obituary
One of a kind "MG" Marlin Gale Vanderpool passed on October 22, 2018.
MG was born December 22, 1965 on a stormy winter night, in Everett, WA, for which his Grandmother Roses Sanner affectionately nicknamed him "Stormy". MG grew up in Marysville, WA, graduating from Marysville-Pilchuck High School with the Class of 1984, where he has many lifelong friends that he's known since kindergarten. He also frequently made friends with complete strangers. MG Vanderpool was known for many things. To list a few: He loved country & bluegrass music, classic rock, fly fishing, boxing, the 58 Chevy Impala, playing Texas Hold Em', the color purple, tattoos, the great outdoors, ice cream, cowboy hats & boots, the mountains and the beach, dogs, driving his MG-B his mom gave him, spontaneously swimming in frigid cold water, playing competitive softball (which awarded him the nickname "Magoo"), looking into the night sky with his telescope, skiing moguls, especially "Big Chief at Stevens Pass", being a prankster, sleeveless t-shirts, woodworking, beachcombing for driftwood, karaoke, Cheryl's cooking & cheesecake, photography, Hazy IPA's, dancing like no other, and singing every word to any song almost perfectly. He deeply loved his children and his wife. Most of all MG grew to know and love Jesus.
At the young age of 5, his mother got him into boxing, with his dad as assistant coach for many years. He had a twenty- year run in boxing with the Everett Firefighters, the top team in the Nation. MG was the "golden glove boy". He earned two trips to nationals, and at age 15, a trip to the Olympic training center in Colorado Springs, where he trained with the unknown Mike Tyson. He was to train for the 1984 Olympics, but his Mom thought graduating high school was important too. MG maintained a passion for boxing, and most recently helped train at Live Wire Gym in Burlington, coaching stand up. Two weeks before he passed, he had the pleasure of reuniting with his boxing team, the Everett Firefighters, and their longtime coach Troy Summers.
MG was married Valentines of 2012 to Cheryl (Brown) Vanderpool. Together they shared many adventures and shared a very deep love for one another. Their favorite places to visit were Lopez Island, Washington Park in Anacortes, Seafarers Park in Anacortes for the Summer Concert Series, Artist Point at Mt Baker, the Gorge Amphitheatre, Leavenworth, WA and the Oregon Coast, sitting in church at Anacortes CTK holding hands, and many Northwest breweries to find the "perfect" Hazy IPA. This is where he took some amazing photos, and memorable photos of their time together. They most recently took a road trip to Southern Oregon, that was a very happy time, to visit Cheryl's parents. For the past 7 years MG and Cheryl lived in Anacortes, WA where they completely engaged in the seaside culture of the community, and attended Anacortes CTK where MG came to know the Lord.
MG was the proud and loving father of two children, Dalton and Jessica Vanderpool. He loved them more than life itself. His continual heartache was that he couldn't be their daily dad. He missed them more than words can express. He was able to be involved in the lives of Cheryl's children, Rochelle & Jordan, who loved him very much. MG experienced deep emotional pain that happens with broken family relationships, and physical pain due to spinal injuries. We have the hope that he is at peace and free from pain, in the arms of his Savior.
He passed unexpectedly doing what he loved, side work helping a customer on Camano Island with a septic issue. MG worked in septic service for most of his career and had been working the past few years for Zodiac Aerospace as a seat technician at Boeing, Paine Field, Everett, WA. He would always tell everyone, when you fly, you're most likely sitting in my seats! He was very loved by all who knew him and had a smile you cannot forget.
MG was preceded in death by his mother Janet Robin Carlson, maternal grandparents Roses & John Sanner, paternal grandparents Gene & Pat Vanderpool, and his cousin Ty Vanderpool who was like a brother, and together they were "double trouble". He is survived by his father Gale Vanderpool of Camano Island, His older sister and husband Teri Sue & Wes Cummings of Stanwood, WA, younger brother Randy Lane Vanderpool of Marysville, WA, children Dalton & Jessica Vanderpool of Lake Stevens, WA, wife Cheryl Vanderpool of Bellingham, WA, step children Rochelle Fischer & partner Michael Paez of Mt Vernon, WA, and Jordan Fischer of Pullman, WA, father & mother in law Dale & Mary Brown of Coquille, OR, stepfather Jerry Carlson of Port Susan, WA, niece and her husband Alyssa & Michael Wolfe, and great niece Mikaela Payton Wolfe of Charleston, SC, niece Brittany Ann Estes & partner Zack Walkama, and great niece Aubrey Robin Walkama of Smokey Point, WA, aunt Trudy and uncle Jack Gendron of Tacoma, WA, his best friend and "brother" Joel Nations, and family of of Palm Harbor, FL, and a very large extended family on both his father and mother's sides.

It was his time to go home….2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

We are working to place a picnic table in his memory at Seafarers Park through the Port of Anacortes, with a plaque stating his favorite Facebook quote, "Anacortes, the Best Little City in the World". He would want you to experience what he loved so much and took many photos of.
