Obituary

Mary Louise "Mary Lou" Hanson Loving wife, mother & grandmother, Mary Lou Hanson, 70, passed away peacefully on Sept. 2, 2008 after suffering a massive stroke. She was born to Dr. Benjamin & Lucille Broghammer on February 5, 1938 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is survived by her husband of 50 years Roger L. Hanson of Mt. Vernon, her children Steven L. Hanson, Sr. (Kristen) of Anacortes, WA, Andrea Stile (Walt) of Chico, CA, Nicki Nelson (Mike) of Seattle, WA, special member of the family Stephen Castillo of Cebu, Philippines. Adoring Nana to Steve Hanson Jr., Megan & Katie Stile, Max, Joe & Jack Nelson, Danny & Jessie Ricci. She is also survived by her brothers Dr. Benjamin Broghammer, Frank Broghammer, Dr. Robert Broghammer, & Mark Broghammer. She was preceded in death by her father, mother & brother Neil Broghammer. Mary Lou raised her family on Mercer Island, Washington & was active in her church, Children's Orthopedic Hospital Guild & Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club. For many years she enjoyed her work at the Lipid Research Clinic & Diabetes & Pregnancy Program at Harborview Hospital. After retirement she shared her time between Mt. Vernon, Washington & Peoria, Arizona. She was an avid boater, Husky Fan, gardener, cook, & Wheel of Fortune viewer. She also enjoyed embroidery & needlepoint. She will be remembered for her wholehearted support of family & friends, optimistic attitude & upbeat spirit. Services will be held at St. Monica's Catholic Church on Mercer Island. Visitation will be at 10a.m., followed by a mass at 11 a.m. After the services a reception will be held at Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club in Bellevue.
