Obituary

Mary Lou Kilcup, a longtime resident of Sedro Woolley, Washington, passed away peacefully on February 16th, 2017, surrounded by her loving family, who were with her throughout her courageous battle with Cancer.

She was born in Slater, Missouri, on December 15th, 1937, to Edith and George Brown. They moved to Skagit Valley and Mary Lou graduated from Burlington Edison High School. She embarked on a fulfilling 30-year career and retirement from Safeway, and partially owned and enjoyed a local ceramic shop. She was an avid supporter of her kids and grandkids, making a point to always show up for their events, take them out to the movies, or for a fun shopping trip.

She is best known for opening her home (and fridge) to anybody who would join her for a bite to eat—canines and felines included, for hosting a mean taco Tuesday, and for her annual 4th of July barbecue that brought together all of her family and friends. Mary will be remembered for her infectious laughter and quick-witted (and at times naughty) sense of humor, and for her heart that always led her to put others before herself. It is through her kindness and grace that she will live on in all those whom she touched throughout her journey.

Her parents precede her in death, as do her brother William Russell Brown and her sister Agnes Merritt.

She is survived by her husband of over 51 years, Vern Otto Kilcup, their 4 boys (and their partners): Rob (Mary) Ireland, Jeff (Lori) Ireland, Steve (Angie) Kilcup and Step-Son Larry (Kathy) Kilcup, and their Grandchildren Shanna, Matt, Sara, Tara, Tyler, Krystal, Sarah, Johnathan, David, Daniel, Patrick and Brice, as well as many beloved great grandchildren.

Services are open to the public and will be this Saturday, February 25th, 2017, at 11am at Hawthorne Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

The family would like to express our gratitude for the Skagit Valley Hospital staff and Hospice of the NW throughout this process, and a special thank you to Mary Lou's very own Nurse Betty (Niece).
