Obituary

Melvin H Hall passed away on March 5, 2021 in Mount Vernon, WA with his family by his side.  He was born on July 28, 1937 in National, WA.  On June 20, 1969 he married the love of his life Barbara Fry.  Barbara had 3 daughters (Debra, Jacque, and Lori) from a previous marriage and Melvin had 2 children ( Mel Hall III and Roseann).  Melvin, Barbara and the 5 kids started their family in Newhalem.  It was a wonderful place to raise children and they soon added baby Melinda Jo.  She had a part of all of us in her.  Everybody loved the baby.  Barbara attended college while raising the children at Newhalem.

Melvin had many hobbies including hunting which provided the families winter meat.  Melvin was also an avid golfer.  He and Barbara loved to travel and went on 17 cruises together over the years.  Melvin was involved with the Newhalem/Diablo Sr Community Center and provided bands and dancing for the club, he was a rifle club member, and was a volunteer Fire Chief and EMT which was provided by Seattle City Light to protect all the families at Newhalem as well as the tourists that were driving through the area.  In 1954 Melvin joined the United States Navy and he served during the Vietnam War.

Melvin was preceded in death by his brother Les (Evelyn) Hall, sister Margaret (Clifford) Reinke, father and mother in law Dick and Agnes Turner, his parents Melvin Hall and Clara Johnson.  He is survived by his half brother Billy Johnson.

Melvin and Barbara both retired on the same day, March 9, 1998.  They purchased a beautiful home on Whidbey Island on Sunset Beach with great views that nobody could block.  They rented out the home while they were not staying there.  Melvin and Barbara then built a mansion of a Pole Garage and settled down there.  The day after their retirement party they got into their Lincoln Town Car and headed south towards the sunshine.  They traveled the entire United States for 4 months and stopped wherever they felt like it.  They sent post cards home from all their stops.  Barbara had done well investing in the stock market and it paid for all their traveling.  Barbara and Melvin were planning a European vacation until 9/11 and decided to stay home instead.  Melvin and Barbara refer to all the children as their "Treasures" because that is what they truly are. The children have married and produced 20 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.  In 2019 the children planned a 50 th Anniversary party for Melvin and Barbara and they even found the minister that married them in Oregon and flew him to Washington so they could renew their vows.  Barbara says "Our life together was God's blessing and we had a wonderful life together."

Donations can be made in Melvin's name to the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association or to any charity for wounded veterans.
