Obituary

Michael Henry Brennen, age 69, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2017 in Mt. Vernon after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 24, 1947 in Seattle to Russell and Marion Brennen.

After graduating from Ballard High School in 1965, Mike continued his education at Shoreline Community College where his love for engineering began to blossom. In 1967, Mike was drafted and enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was stationed at Yokota Air Force Base in Tokyo, Japan. After serving his four years, Mike continued pursuing his education at the University of Washington where he would receive his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture.

Mike and his former spouse, Lou Ann Carver, then relocated to Arizona where he received a Master's in Solar Engineering from Arizona State University. He and Lou Ann were married for more than twenty years and had two sons, Ryan and Shawn. Mike enjoyed watching his sons grow up and coaching their youth sports teams. He took great pride in sending both of his boys through college.

Mike spent the majority of his working career with the Snohomish County PUD where he would eventually retire in 2001. His retirement lasted less than one year before he was back working. This time he eventually landed in Sacramento where he would spend the last five years of his working career with the Sacramento Municipal Power District (SMUD). After retiring from SMUD, he moved back to the Pacific Northwest.

Mike has always had a deep connection to the Puget Sound, which started as a young boy growing up on the Ballard waterfront. It is only fitting the final years of his life were spent overlooking the water on Camano Island. The greatest gift Mike gave to this world, besides his two sons, was his lighthearted personality and lust for life. Mike lived as each day was his last and wouldn't back away from any situation as long as there was an experience to be gained. Mike loved to travel and experience everything the world had to offer. This passion took him all over the world, from the Panama Canal to backpacking through Europe. Mike will be remembered as much for his personality as he is for his world famous chocolate chip cookies and stained glass artwork.

Mike is predeceased by his sister Mollie Brennen. He is survived by his brothers Pat and Russ, son Ryan and daughter-in-law Tristen, son Shawn and daughter-in-law Emily, and grandchildren Mackenna, Avery and Camden.

A celebration of life will be held at Anthony's HomePort in Edmonds on Friday, May 12 from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made at www.seattlecca.org/donate or sent to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), P.O. Box 19023, Seattle WA 98109-1023.  Checks may be made payable to SCCA with indication that they are in memory of Michael Brennen.
