IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael Bert
Loyd
May 23, 1949 – April 6, 2025
Michael "Mike" Loyd, 75, of Camano Island, Washington, passed away on April 6, 2025, in Mount Vernon, Washington.
Born on May 23, 1949, in Seattle, Washington, Mike graduated from Sammamish High School in 1967 and then served in the Army during the Vietnam War, earning a Bronze Star medal.
After settling in Skagit County in the late 1970s, Mike worked for many years with the Skagit County Department of Public Works. From the late 80s through its sale in 2011, he owned and operated North Washington Collections in Bellingham. During his "retirement gig" years of 2012-2019, he may have helped you find the right tool for your DIY project at Lowe's in Mount Vernon. He was a member of Skagit Golf & Country Club for many years and loved spending time with friends on the golf course.
Mikey enjoyed cooking for a crowd, usually making both an amazing feast and a fantastic mess in the process. His special occasion prime rib was a perennial favorite. He loved to play cards, with a cold drink in his hand, a big bowl of popcorn by his side, and a roaring fire keeping the place warm. He had a great laugh and a big heart, always ready and willing to help a neighbor in need.
Mike is survived by his partner of 19 years, Nancy Smidt; children from his previous marriage, Lindsay Loyd (husband Adam Berkowitz) and Adam Loyd; his granddaughters, Marissa and Victoria Berkowitz; and "bonus" kids Chad, Chelsea, and Abe, and grandkids, Jake, Adrian, Henry, Augie, and Annie. He was predeceased by his parents.
Nancy and Mike's kids will be organizing a celebration of life later in the year.
In lieu of flowers, Mike's family would be honored with donations to the American Legion, or any other veterans' support organizations, in his memory.
