Obituary

Minnie Jager (born Harmina Elina Schuur), age 92, a longtime resident of Skagit Valley, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 20, 2016 with her family by her side. She was born in Siddeburen, the Netherlands on November 10, 1923. She was the daughter of Jan Schuur and Emma (Battjes) Schuur.

During the German occupation of The Netherlands in World War II, Minnie worked in a ration card distribution center. While working there, she met her future husband Sidney. She, along with her husband, became involved in the Dutch resistance movement.

Minnie and Sidney were married in 1945 in Slochteren, the Netherlands . They immigrated to the United States , settling in Washington State on May 1, 1950. Minnie, along with her husband Sidney, owned and operated Sid's Market in Sedro Woolley from 1962-1970. Later she spent fifteen years working in retail at the Mount Vernon Wigwam store.

Minnie was a devoted grandmother to her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved gardening, knitting, crocheting and reading as well as playing games. Minnie was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church located in Burlington , Washington . She was very active in the church for many years.

Minnie is survived by her son Koos and his wife Cindy Jager of Anacortes; daughter Emily and her husband Lee Anderson of Anacortes and son, Randy and his wife Kandy Jager of Burlington; thirteen grandchildren, Tammy and her husband Dean Boerigter, Dawn Jager, Christopher and his wife Heather Jager, Kenneth and his wife Bethany Jager, Matthew Jager, Amy and her husband Larry Nuchesi, Timothy and his wife Shelly, Kristin George, Laurie and her husband Jeff Blasbichler, Rebecca and her husband Aaron McCreery, Stacie and her husband Jason Quatsoe, Breyden Jager, Lindsay and her husband Jed Brewer; twenty great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.

Minnie was preceded in death by her husband Sidney of 64 years, her parents, her sister Elena Brink, and her brother Hemmo Schuur.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Faith Baptist Church, 800 E. Rio Vista Ave, Burlington with Pastors James Shaw and Justin Howe officiating. The service will be followed by a reception at the church. Arrangements are under the care of Hawthorne Funeral Home of Mount Vernon. In lieu of flowers, tributes may be made to Faith Baptist Church 800 E. Rio Vista Ave, Burlington Washington 98233.
