Obituary

On March 20, 2025, sadly our family lost a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Monte Dean Levaque passed away peacefully with his wife Patsy of 61 years, his daughter Kristin, son Kirk and grandchildren all by his side.

He was born on September 6, 1940 to Marshall and Lenea Levaque of Burlington, Washington.  He was the younger of two brothers.

Monte attended BEHS, graduating with the class of 1958.  An honor student and excellent athlete excelling and lettering in football, basketball, and track, he had the honor of playing football for the infamous "Coach Rickert".

He graduated from the University of Washington School of Pharmacy in 1964, and later became a member of the Alumni Association.  He was an avid Husky fan - he bled purple and gold!

Monte and Patsy were married September 14, 1963 at the Salem Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon, Washington.  Their marriage was filled with years of raising their two children Kristin and Kirk, later embracing the five grandchildren, Jeffrey Roy, Erika Elise, Ryan Dale, Brayden Marshall and great grandson Forrest Dean.

Monte began his career as a Pharmacist working in Olympia, Washington at Bailey Drug then later transferred to the Pay'n Save Corporation as Head Pharmacist in Aberdeen, Washington for 15 years.  In 1979 he moved his family back to his roots in the Skagit Valley where he bought Scandia Health Foods.  He later opened Valley Pharmacy in downtown Mount Vernon, incorporating Scandia Health Foods hence becoming known as the "Nutritional Pharmacist".  He built a reputation as a man who cared; he enhanced lives with his kindness and humor while giving unsolicited but legendary wisdom.

He had numerous varied collections, he loved music, gardening, travel, and he was a huge Seattle Seahawks and Washington Husky fan.  His five grandchildren were the love and light in his life.  He never missed a sporting event and was a common presence at parent sports meetings and even school conferences.

In the late 1970's he bought a condo at Wapato Point at Lake Chelan and hence the beginning of many incredible, lifelong memories for the family and friends.

The love of travel took Monte and Patsy to the pyramids in Mexico, to hiking through the jungle of Guatemala and Costa Rica.  They visited the white sandy beaches of Playa de Carmen and the crystal-clear water of Lake Chelan, to cliff dwellings at Bandelier in New Mexico and to the high desert of Santa Fe, New Mexico.  They loved every minute of the exploration and adventure.

He will always be a constant presence in the tight knit bond we all share.  His impact will be felt forever.  There are special people in our lives who never leave us even after they are gone.

We all love you to the moon and back and think of you every day.  There is a void now that will never be filled, but we will all carry on as you would want us to do.

Until we meet again-

Love you Dear,

Love you Dad,

Love you "Big Dawg",

Love you Grampy,

Love you Grandpa,

Love you Grand Dog!

Monte was preceded in death by his parents Lenea and Marshall Levaque, older brother Dale Levaque and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Monte is survived by wife Patsy of Mount Vernon, daughter Kristin Johanson of Camano Island, her 3 children Jeffrey, Erika and Ryan Hayton.  Also, son Kirk Levaque of Mount Vernon and his son Brayden Levaque, great grandson Forrest Dean, numerous, nieces, nephews, cousins, brother-in-law Dennis Lind and special lifelong friends, Jon Nevitt and Billy Nevitt.
