Muriel S Neely

Muriel Neely, age 93, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026 at Josephine Caring Community in Stanwood.

Born in Mount Vernon in 1933, Muriel spent her early years on Samish Island. She graduated from Burlington Edison High School in 1951 and then earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She married Eugene Neely in 1956. Together they raised a family and owned a dairy farm in Bow and she continued to work as a nurse in Burlington. Later in life she changed careers and earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Social Work. She worked many years for Washington’s Department of Social and Health Services.

Muriel loved history and genealogy. She volunteered at the Skagit County Historical Museum in La Conner, contributing her time and energy to a place that was important to her. In addition, she served on the Board of Josephine Caring Community, offering her support to an organization focused on care and dignity.

She is survived by her daughters Linda Gifford (Walter), Krista Anderson (Rick), and Katrina Wreggit (Steve), nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene, and her son, Robert.

A memorial service will be held at Edison Lutheran Church, 14201 Church Road, Bow. Details will be shared once arrangements are finalized.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
