Myrtle Y. Olson passed away unexpectly on Wednesday October 26 th at her home. She was born in Valley City , North Dakota to Frank and Louise Gesellchen on May 4th, 1924. She was the 5th of 6 children growing up on the family farm. Her father Frank proudly raised all 6 children by himself after the death of her mother Louise from childbirth. Myrtle met and married Warren Olson, and they lived in Valley City until 1953 when they moved with their 2 sons to Mount Vernon . She continued to live in the same house for the past 60 years. Myrtle worked as a waitress at the Place Café downtown Mount Vernon for many years, she never drove so she walked back and forth to work many times. She enjoyed family gatherings, camping, and even went on hunting trips with Warren . Her laughter could make you smile and join in. Myrtle enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow, and could fix a wonderful meal for all to enjoy. She was also a life time Mariner fan, and loved to watch the Seahawks. Frank and Louise, sisters; Erma, Olivia. Brothers; Richard, Warren, Arthur and an infant at birth. Myrtle is survived by her two son's James (Nadine) William (Marilyn) grandchildren: Nikki (Scott Strickert) Todd, Jared and Wesley Olson. A Memorial Service will be held at Hawthorne 's in Mount Vernon on Friday, November 11th at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow. The family suggest that memorials be made to Immaculate Conception School in Mount Vernon or to the American Heart Association.
