Obituary

Nanette Morrison Hough died quietly in her sleep on March 9, 2016. She was 82.

Born September 4, 1933, Nan grew up in Warm Beach . The daughter of Ray and Doris Morrison, Nan lived over her dad's store and the local Post Office. She graduated Twin City High in Stanwood in 1950.

Nan married Bill Jackson in 1952 and together they had Billy Ray, Mike and Annie. In 1963, she married Mike Hough and they had Robyn and Bryan.

During all this, Nan begun her career in media; working at times for King, both Radio and TV, and KYA in San Francisco . In 1970, the Hough's moved back to the Skagit Valley where Nan worked for vets Dr.s Bradbury and Fredrickson, and was the first Mount Vernon Downtown Coordinator. In 1972 she went to work for KBRC Radio in sales. When the station sold in 1985, she went to work for the Skagit Valley Herald as the Promotions Director. This time was also the heyday of her column, Gemini Capsule.

In 1993 Nan , Victoria Shepherd, and Yvonne McAdow opened an advertising agency called The Agency. Eventually, she went back to KBRC, then the MV School District, and, at last, Nan retired.

Nan was a founding member of Skagit Community Art Theatre in Sedro Woolley and was a favorite on stage. She belonged to Skagit Women's Alliance Network, becoming SWAN's Woman of the Year in 1992. She was the beloved Lunch Lady on KBRC. She was active with many charities and service groups, including United Way and SPARC. Along with Sharon Cole, she was the first woman inducted into Kiwanis Club.

Whether working for children in Youthnet or manning the info booth at the Highland Games, Nan was a presence in the community that will always be missed.

Nan is preceded in death by her husband Mike and her brother Raymond. She leaves behind children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, friends and pets – all of whom will miss her forever.

The Memorial Service will take place Saturday, March 19, 2016 at noon at New Life @ The Well. 123 Evergreen Street , Mount Vernon .
