IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Naomi Ruth
Holboy
November 9, 1939 – July 22, 2023
Mount Vernon - Our family sadly lost our beloved Naomi Ruth (Adams) Holboy on July 22, 2023, at the age of 83. Naomi was born on November 9, 1939, to Harold and Viola (Turner) Adams. Born in Madera, CA, she lived her early years surrounded by her Turner family. Naomi soon gained a sister, Grace, and then a brother, David. When Naomi was a child, her family relocated to Montana. She again was surrounded by a large extended family, this time the Adams and Wheathersons.
Naomi graduated from Billings High School in 1958, then headed to Seattle, WA to attend Northwest Bible School to pursue her calling as a missionary, with a desire to do missions work in China. While a student, Naomi worked at the soda counter at Woolworths. One day, a fellow student, Wendel Holboy, approached her and asked her out. Their date at Golden Gardens Park was not just their first date, but the beginning of a wonderful life they built together.
Naomi married Wendel on June 22, 1959. They began married life living on Capitol Hill in Seattle. Their first son, David, was born in 1960 then the family moved to the north end of Seattle and welcomed their second son, Phil, in 1962. In late 1966, while the family was moving to Stanwood where Wendel started his teaching career, Naomi gave birth to Gary in Seattle. Soon after Gary's birth Naomi entered the nursing program at Everett Community College. After completing her degree, Naomi was offered a job at Skagit Valley Hospital where she thrived in her thirty-year career as an Operating Room RN.
Naomi and Wendel had a deep passion for sailing and spent many days exploring the San Juan Islands. She looked forward to their annual August sailing trip to Canada, island hopping through the San Juan and Gulf Islands along the way. While on land, Wendel and Naomi enjoyed going to the theater for many years at the Seattle Rep. At home, Naomi was known for her sewing ability and gardening skills. She took immense pride in her flower gardens and landscaping.
In 2004, Naomi lost the love of her life, Wendel. After a period of grieving, she was encouraged to explore the world with her friends Ruth and Charlie and her sister-in-law Vernal. Together they travelled to China, Vietnam, Egypt, South America and many other destinations. Naomi was also an avid walker, which helped her train for and complete the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk for the Cure twice and a backpacking trip along the Pacific Crest Trail from Cutthroat Pass to the Canadian border.
Naomi's true calling was being a grandmother. She loved to throw tea parties with her Butchart Gardens tea sets. She made her house a child's dream with a playroom in her home and a playground in her backyard. Naomi loved driving up Chuckanut Drive with her convertible top down, Raffi music in the background and the giggles of her grandkids in the backseat. Naomi was there to meet any need of her grandchildren, whether it was after school care, going to band concerts, or cheering loud and proud at sporting events. She especially loved having her home be the gathering point for both her immediate and extended family, whether it be birthday parties or backyard barbeques.
Naomi is survived by her sons; David (Sandy) Holboy, Phil (LeAnne) Holboy, Gary (Heidi) Holboy, grandchildren; Ayla (Dillon) Finnegan, Emily (Craig) Lindell, Hannah Mendro, Wesley Holboy, Nicholas Mendro, Abby Holboy, and Gabby Holboy, three great-grandchildren; Jameson Lindell, Jack Finnegan, and Lillian Lindell. She is also survived by her sister Grace Sieler and brother David (Margaret) Adams and many other relatives and dear friends she made over the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wendel, her parents, and grandson Adam Holboy.
