Nils Tore Larsen passed away peacefully January 6, 2010 in Mount Vernon, WA. He was born in Tonsberg, Norway on November 26, 1924 to Nils and Mayn. He is survived by his son Bjorn (Nancy) and daughter Berit and grandchildren – Erika (Julie), Bjorn Jr. (Laura), Heidi (Jonathan) and Melissa. He is also survived by his sister Anne-Marie, sisters-in-law Solveig Svartangen, Ase Sorensen and Gudrun Sorensen in Norway. And many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Astri, his parents Nils and Mayn, his in-laws, Alf and Petra Sorensen, his sister Berit and her husband Leif, brothers-in-law – Stener, Ole and Anders. Nils and Astri were married October 23, 1951. They left Norway in 1959 with their two children and moved to Edmonds, WA. He worked in the construction industry as a painter and had his own company for many years and retired from the Painters Local #339. Nils was affiliated with the Masonic Lodge in Edmonds and achieved the 32nd degree as a Mason. While living in Edmonds, Nils and Astri were active at Christ Lutheran Church, as well as square dancing with the Checkerboard Squares and playing lots and lots of cards with family and friends. Nils was the Scout Master for Troop # 302 and had 6 of his scouts achieve the Eagle Award including his son. They belonged to the Sons of Norway Lodge in Ballard and in 1977 built a cabin at Norway Park. Nils held a number of positions on the Norway Park Board, but his favorite was being the Park Forester, because he loved working in the woods. He also enjoyed woodworking – handcrafting many items for his family. Nils will be sadly missed by all his family and many, many friends. Du er na med Mor – Vi elkser deg – Sov godt begge to. A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 10, 2010 at 2:00 at the Norway Park Pavilion. Memorials may be made to Trollhaugen Heritage Camp c/o Sons of Norway Ballard Lodge.
