Norma Rose Joe Johnston a life long resident of La Conner went home to be with Jesus on August 26, 2009 while surrounded by her loving family. Norma was born on March 26, 1934 to William David Joe and Rebecca Edge. She attended La Conner Schools, graduating in 1952. Norma spent 15 years working for the Swinomish Tribe. She considered it a privilege to serve her community as a tribal senator. It was Norma's passion for her lord and savior Jesus Christ the word of God that she will be remembered for the most. She never failed to hold sermon for a few or for many with her own brand of fiery Pentecostal preaching. She was always at the hospital bedside of the sick and dying. Leading loved ones to the lord. She was there for so many with compassion, love and unwavering support. Norma was an avid student of the bible and always had something to share and teach. She was a great prayer warrior. Norma's was preceded in death by her loving husband Robert W. Johnston, Mother, Rebecca Edge Paul, father William David Joe Jr., and loving granddaughter Jamie Francine Joe. Norma is survived by her brother Charles Paul (Diane) and her special brother Robert Joe Sr. Her children: Mark Joe Sr., Cynthia O'Rock, Joanna Bullion (Dan), Robert R. Johnston, Wilfred G. Johnston (Rosemary), David Johnston, Rebecca Swinton (Juan) and special daughter Shelly Johnston. Grandchildren: Mark Joe Jr., Amanda Ruzicka(Jason), Matthew Johnston, Andrea Johnston, Krista Hamburg, Corey Hamburg, Christian Johnston and Jonathan O'Rock. Great grandchildren: Darrell Williams, Jeremiah Williams, Jordan Johnston, Mikailah Johnston, Braxton Ruzicka, and Landon Ruziicka. As well as all of her "grandchildren" from the La Conner Neighborhood Children's Church. And all the numerous extended family. Viewing will be held Friday, August 28, 2009, 10:00 am until 5:00 pm at Hawthorne Funeral Home. Dinner will be served following the viewing, 6:00 pm, at the Swinomish Gymnasium. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 28, 2009, 11:00 am at the Swinomish Gymnasium, the graveside service, approximately 1:00 pm, will follow at Hawthorne Memorial Park.
