Obituary

Patricia "Patti" Doddridge, age 79, passed peacefully on August 26, 2013 in Mount Vernon, WA. She was born on July 23, 1934 in Sacramento, CA to Virgil and Jen (DuMars) Crockett. Patricia grew up in Sacramento, California graduating from Sacramento High School in 1952. She married Donald Dendauw in 1953 and during their 12 year marriage had 4 children together. She worked in the plumbing trade between Sacramento to Fresno as an office manager/bookkeeper during her 41 year career. In 1966 she married Henry Doddridge and worked alongside her husband at Headliner Plumbing Company for the next 14 years, then Independent Plumbing Company until her retirement in 1994. She and her husband were involved with PHCC (Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors) of Central California where she was the secretary for many years. They were also involved in California Fish & Wildlife, state-wide conservation efforts and honorary life-time members of the Fresno County Sportsmen's Club. Patricia became the first woman president of the Fresno County Sportsmen's Club in its 74 year history in 1990-91. Patricia spent 46 years living in Fresno, California before moving to Burlington, Washington in 2009 to be closer to her youngest son and daughter. She and her Yorkie dog "Tucker" made lots of friends during their time as residents of Creekside Retirement Community before moving into a home with her companion Bud Whitney. Her greatest joys in life were her family and many friends. Her hobbies included reading, sewing and traveling. Patricia and Henry traveled around the world encompassing 90 countries with highlights of 44 days in Africa and Australia for 2 months. She also enjoyed producing a quarterly newsletter for her husband's WWII Army group (352nd Searchlight Battalion) until his passing in 2004. She was passionate about helping to find a cure for the incurable diseases she was afflicted with - Schleroderma and Fibromyalgia. She was active with the Fresno Chapters of both support groups for over 20 years. Patricia was preceded in death by her parents Virgil and Jen Crockett; her husband of 38 years Henry Doddridge; father of her children Donald Dendauw; her step-daughter Shirley Hollis and her beloved companion of the last 2-1/2 years, DeWayne "Bud" Whitney. She is survived by her brother Steve (Cheryl) Crockett; sister-in-law Lela Smith; her nephew Damon (Siobhan) Crockett; her 4 children Dennis (Susie) Dendauw, Kristi Dendauw, Kenneth (Denise) Crockett and Karen (Phillip) Mills; her sons-in-law Dana Milano and Johnny Hollis; her grandchildren Scotty Hollis, Timmy Hollis, David (Tammy) Hollis, Christopher (Monique) Ray, Shanna Milano, Zackery Milano, Dylan (Sydney) Ray, Thomas Crockett, Rachel Crockett; her great-grandchildren Johnathan Hollis, Mikaela Hollis, Hunter Hollis, Karma Ray, Ronnie Ray and numerous cousins. A memorial service will be held at Hawthorne Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 1825 E. College Way, Mount Vernon, WA at 3:00pm on Thursday, September 12, 2013. A reception will be held immediately afterwards. A Celebration of Life will also take place in Fresno, California on Sunday, November 10, 2013, 2:00pm at the Fresno County Sportsmen's Club. She will be laid to rest that day at Fresno Memorial Gardens alongside her husband of 38 years on what would have been their 47th wedding anniversary.
