Obituary

Patricia Ann Taylor, a long time resident of Bow, Washington, passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer on April 26, 2013. Patricia, known as "Pat" to her friends, was born on February 13, 1929 in Duluth, Minnesota to Lucille Taufman and James Miller. In the summer of 1945, she moved to Friday Harbor, Washington with her mother and step-father, William Storm. She graduated from Friday Harbor High School at the age of seventeen in 1946 and was married on July 21, 1946 to the love of her life, J. William "Bill' Taylor, who passed away after sixty-three years of marriage on April 25, 2009. She lived many years on Samish Island and later on Bow Hill, before moving to Burlington, Washington to a retirement community. In the early sixties, Pat returned to school obtaining her Associates nursing degree from Skagit Valley College in 1966. For many years until she retired in 1986, Pat worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at United General Hospital. She loved camping and went on many trips when her sons were young to Canada, California and Colorado. Later she traveled internationally to Germany, Denmark, England, Scotland and the Netherlands. She and Bill also enjoyed cruises to such places as the Caribbean, Panama Canal, Hawaii, and Alaska. She was a long time member of the Allen United Methodist Church, serving as a youth counselor, working with prayer groups and as a choir member. Pat loved music, and taught herself to play the piano. Often she would sit at the piano and play and sing for hours. She acquired many lifetime friends through her work and through the church. She was always willing to help others and volunteer her time. She was a great friend, wife and mother. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. Pat is survived by her sons, Jim and his wife, Susie of Samish Island, Paul of Mount, Vernon, and her granddaughters, Jennifer and Katharine. All of them were able to express their love and affection to Pat before she passed on in her sleep. The family would also like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Shetabi and the staff at the North Puget Sound Cancer Center at United General Hospital, Hospice of the Northwest, Diane Feeney and Pat's friends at the Allen United Methodist Church for their professionalism, support, and friendship throughout her years of battling cancer. A memorial service, celebrating Pat's life, will be held at the Allen United Methodist Church on May 25th at 2:00 p.m. Memorials in her name may be made to the United Allen Methodist Church, The San Juan Preservation Society, and the American Cancer Society, and to Hospice of the Northwest.
