Pauline Phyllis (Friend) Carlson, age 92, passed away on December 27, 2011 in Mount Vernon, WA. She was born on February 25, 1919 in Morgantown, Monongalia, WV, the daughter of Gilbert and Lula Alice (DeWitt) Friend. Leaving the Cheakneck area of WV the family moved to Upper Preston WA, where she met her future husband. She attended school in the Preston and later married her childhood sweetheart Evan J Carlson on August 24, 1935 in Montesano, Grays Harbor, WA. They lived for many years in the Granit Falls, Lake Bosworth area and the last seven years in Mount Vernon. She was a wife and homemaker, a most wonderful cook, which she loved. She adored her husband Evan and they were married for 68 years until his death in December 2003. They together loved to fish, go bird hunting and camp. They belonged to Totem Good Sams club and Pilchuck Grange Camping Club, Vasa Lodge 378 of Upper Preston and a charter member of the Cascade Horse Club. Her husband and family loved Pauline dearly. Pauline is survived by her nieces, Diane (Dale) Murrow, Darlene Scott, Gail (George) Korsak, Janey (Dennis) Funston, Judy (John) Falk; nephews, Gary (Donna) Friend, Larry (Joann) Friend, James (Catherine) Olsen and other nieces and nephews. Pauline preceded in death by her parents, sister Leota Sullivan, brother Alonzo Friend, niece Bonnie Baldwin and grandnephew Curtis Friend. Viewing will be Wednesday, January 4 from 10:00am until 5:00pm and Thursday 10:00am until 1:00am at Hawthorne Funeral Home and Memorial Park, followed by a service at Hawthorne Funeral and Memorial Park.
