Ray Salsman was born in Pepsin MO. February 18 1916 to Edna and Ira Salsman. He grew up and attended school in Diamond MO. He then followed Construction for a few years then he moved to Richland MO. Where he met his wife Bernadine Simmons and worked in stores until he started managing a Shell station on highway 66 for 2 years. Due to gas rationing he left to work for Shell Refinery to make aviation gasoline for the war. After 14 years he transferred to the Shell Refinery in Anacortes where he worked for 32 years. At his retirement he was sent to Martinez CA. and to Mobile AL. to help start up new units. Retired, he traveled for a few years then he bought a house in Misourri where he had originally lived. He spent part of the year in Burlington and the rest of the year in Missouri. After 6 years he moved to Country Meadows Village in Sedro Woolley where he spent 5 years. On Feb 03, 2006 he moved to Ashley gardens where he died after an extended illness on Sunday June 11, 2006.. He is survived by his wife, Bernadine of 67 years; 3 children and spouses: Linda and Bob Ungerleider, Anita Miller, Randal and Tonya Salsman,grandchildren Christie and Craig Salsman; 8 great grandchildren: Lisa and Steve Dills, Ed and Michelle Friedman, Christy and Andy Peebler, Debbie and Jay Tight, John and Shari Miller, Aaron and Keibo Miller ; and 15 great, great-grandchildren: Lindsey, Danny and max Friedman, twins Alex and Madison Tight, Tim and Nathan Dills, Melissa, Ariel, AJ-Isaac Peebles, Kiera and Devin Miller, Ray and Luke Miller; 1 sister: Nancy Puckett and a brother, Roy Salsman; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, 5 siblings: Les, Kenneth, Ruby, Bernice and Cleo. The Salsman family would like to thank Helen and the wonderful staff at Ashley Gardens for the loving , thoughtful, kind understanding care given to Ray during the last days of his life. It was the best care I have witnessed anywhere in my 86 years of life. God Bless all of you-Bernadine, Anita Miller and family.
