IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard
Oglesbee
July 24, 1951 – November 7, 2021
Richard "Rick" Oglesbee led a life filled with joy and compassion. While he passed too early, his life was a light that shone strongest for those around him.
Rick was born in Montana, where he spent much of his early childhood, living with his Mom and Grandparents in Billings and Hamilton. His family moved to Anacortes, WA in 1963 and Rick soon joined the High School football team where he loved the challenge and camaraderie. His teammates voted him "Most Inspirational" his senior year. He graduated from Anacortes High School in 1969. Rick was a lifelong football fan, always cheering for the Anacortes and Seattle Seahawks.
Following High School, Rick worked for Seattle City Light before enlisting in the United States Navy where he hoped to serve and see the world. His Navy career spanned 12 years and included assignments at duty stations in Alameda, CA., Jacksonville FL., and his favorite posting of his career, New Orleans LA. Rick concluded his time in service at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station in 1985.
Rick then joined his brother Scott commercial fishing in Alaska. He often described the years spent working alongside his brother as the highlight of his life, cherishing the time at sea, working hard, and sharing the experiences with those around him.
After his adventures in the Navy and in Alaska, Rick settled into a career spent in service of people. He worked for twenty years at Truck City in Mt. Vernon, WA where he befriended the long haul truck drivers who would pass through. He maintained long lasting friendships through his generous and caring spirit, his eagerness to listen, and an ever-ready joke to brighten someone's day.
He loved his family and cherished his sister Kelly and brother Scott immensely. He cared deeply for their children and grandchildren, always excited to hear the latest stories. He kept in constant contact with his family, spending hours at a time sharing stories with his siblings, and following the life events of each member of the family.
He is preceded in his death by his mother Roxy Miller and his father Frank Oglesbee. He is survived by his sister Kelly Oglesbee Carr and her partner Dennis Roquet as well as his brother Scott Oglesbee and his wife Joie LaBlond. He leaves behind six nieces and one nephew, eight great nieces and nephews, and his Aunt Sandy and Uncle George Beck, all of whom were enormous parts of Rick's life.
Rick will be missed dearly. His life may have passed, but his light will forever shine through those who loved him.
The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks and appreciation for the kind and thoughtful assistance that was rendered by first responders from the Big Lake Fire Dept. Their service in this difficult time was highly respectful and honorable.
