Richard Floyd Redd, Born 28 November 1946, Prosser, WA. Died 11 June 2014, Mount Vernon, WA. Richard was raised in Yakima, graduating in 1965 from Davis High School, where he co-captained the football team, wrestled and studied Spanish. On a football scholarship, he studied at the University of Puget Sound. In the US Navy for nine years, Richard worked in micro-miniature repair on aircraft going to Viet Nam and participated on Navy football and wrestling teams. Before returning to WWU for three years, where he played football and wrestled again, he worked for Boeing in Everett. Richard fulfilled a dream at Bellingham Vo-Tech when he studied car restoration, then opened Arrow Auto Body. Car shows throughout the state, especially hot rod shows in Yakima were an important part of his summers. Diabetes made Richard change his life. He gave up both smoking and car restoration, studied computer technology, and proudly worked out of his home until his death. Richard is survived by his wife of forty-three years Susan Redd, as well as sister-in-law Paula Redd, nieces Tracy Houck, Sara Machado, Charity Redd; nephews Lee Redd, Steven Redd, supportive friend Juan Macedo; Morgan and S.E.A.T. at home. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Helen Graves Redd, his brothers Dean and Les, and his first wife Janet Conlin Redd. Our gratitude to the entire staff of Skagit Valley Hospital, including Dr. Malik Fuimaono and the energetic student nurses for their care, positive attitudes, and sense of humor which Richard appreciated. On Friday 20 June, a brief open-air memorial service will be conducted at 10:30 am at Hawthorne Funeral Home, 1825 East College Way, Mount Vernon, WA 98273. www.hawthornefh.com. followed by lunch. Richard would be touched to know that a hot rod passed by the cemetery Friday morning during the memorial service.
